A true innovator in the field of cardiology, Dr Ashok Seth, Chairman, Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi and Head, Cardiology Council, Fortis Group of Hospitals, has been appointed President of Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC) for the next three years. The announcement was made at the AICT-ASIA PCR Conference in Singapore recently, a prestigious annual platform organized by and for the interventional cardiovascular community to share knowledge, new advancements and best practices in the sphere. Dr Seth’s appointment places India on the global map of interventional cardiology.
Dr Seth’s contributions in the field of cardiology, especially interventional cardiology, have been recognized extensively in India and across the world. During a career span of 30 years, he has pioneered numerous angioplasty techniques such as Asia Pacific’s first Trans Catheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI) and Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold (BVS); Asia Pacific’s first Impella Heart Support Device as well as Directional Atherectomy, Angioscopy, Thrombectomy devices. For his unique achievements & contributions, he has been honored with the prestigious Padma Shri in 2003, the Padma Bhushan in 2015 and B.C. Roy Award for the most Eminent Doctor in 2017. Dr. Seth has been the President of the Cardiological Society of India and Vice President of the Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology. He has published numerous papers in international journals and has been invited to speak and demonstrate complex angioplasty techniques in more than 400 international training courses and meetings across the globe, including live transmissions of complex cases from India. He has been honoured by Doctorates from 6 major national universities. He has trained more than 500 cardiologists in Asia Pacific region in angioplasty techniques.
Dr Ashok Seth shared, “I feel truly honored to have been appointed as President of Asia Pacific Society of Interventional Cardiology (APSIC). In the next three years my aim would be to consolidate the researches and advancements in interventional cardiology of Asia Pacific and showcase it to the rest of the world. It has now got to be East teaching the West. We would also like to create a platform of teaching & exchange of knowledge and expertise to benefit our young gen interventional cardiologists across Asia Pacific, so that patient care and outcomes get even better”.

It also holds one of the biggest annual scientific interventional cardiology meetings in Asia Pacific – The AICT-AsiaPCR – held in Singapore/Hong Kong. It participates and co-sponsors various intervention bodies across the world and is the single most important intervention society for Asia Pacific region. APSIC also publishes a journal named AsiaIntervention and collaborates research and guidelines on specific topics of Intervention Cardiology specific to the region.
