The Government of India is set to launch e-Sushrut Clinic, an affordable cloud-based Hospital Management Information System (HMIS) designed specifically for small healthcare providers, on June 29. Union Health Minister Jagat Prakash Nadda will officially launch the platform, which has been developed by the Centre for Development of Advanced Computing (C-DAC) to accelerate the digital transformation of primary healthcare services across the country.

The e-Sushrut Clinic platform aims to address the digital requirements of small clinics, primary health centres (PHCs), health and wellness centres (HWCs), sub-centres and private outpatient facilities, many of which continue to operate with limited digital infrastructure. The cloud based system is expected to provide a cost effective and scalable solution for healthcare providers seeking to digitize patient records, streamline clinical workflows and improve healthcare delivery.

According to officials, the simplified HMIS will support essential healthcare functions, including patient registration, appointment scheduling, electronic medical records, prescription management, diagnostics, billing and reporting. The platform is designed to improve operational efficiency while reducing the cost and complexity traditionally associated with hospital information systems.

The launch aligns with the government’s broader vision of strengthening India’s digital health ecosystem under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). Official data indicate that more than 80 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have been created nationwide, while over 100 crore health records have been digitally linked through the ABDM platform, making India one of the world’s largest digital health ecosystems.

Healthcare experts believe that affordable digital health platforms can play a critical role in improving healthcare accessibility, particularly in rural and underserved areas where smaller healthcare facilities often serve as the first point of contact for patients. By enabling digital record keeping and standardized workflows, such systems can enhance continuity of care, improve clinical decision making and support better health outcomes.

The introduction of e-Sushrut Clinic is also expected to facilitate greater integration of smaller healthcare providers into the national digital health network, promoting interoperability and improving access to technology driven healthcare services. Experts note that digitalization of primary care facilities is essential to achieving universal health coverage and strengthening healthcare resilience.

The launch of the platform reflects the government’s continued focus on leveraging digital technologies to modernize healthcare delivery and improve access to affordable, efficient and patient centric healthcare services across India.
