Hamirpur: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has announced that the Himachal Pradesh Health & Family Welfare Department is installing modern diagnostic equipment worth approximately ₹500 crore across all medical colleges in the state. The announcement was made during the inauguration of a public health camp in the Kangu area of Nadaun Assembly constituency in Hamirpur district.

According to CM Sukhu, installing modern technology and machines at medical colleges will strengthen diagnostic services and make them more accurate, enabling people to receive the right treatment without delay. He noted that such advanced equipment is currently available only at AIIMS in Delhi, and that similar facilities are not yet available even at AIIMS Bilaspur or in cities like Ludhiana and Jalandhar – making Himachal’s move a significant step forward.

Alongside the diagnostic upgrade, the state government will also recruit 650 doctors, comprising 300 medical officers, 200 specialists and 150 super-specialists. In addition, specialist doctors will be appointed at all 70 Adarsh Medical Institutions, ensuring that people have access to better healthcare closer to their homes.

The Chief Minister also said that Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Jolsappar would be inaugurated shortly, and that the first Allied Health Sciences institution of its kind in North India would be established in Hamirpur. The vice-chancellor has been directed to ensure that admissions to the institution begin this year.

Sukhu said that despite challenging economic circumstances, Himachal Pradesh is moving towards self-reliance, and the state government is ensuring there is no shortage of funds for key sectors including health and education.
