He said, “Today marks the beginning of a new chapter in our hospital’s commitment to healthcare excellence. Our Inflammatory Bowel Disease Specialty Clinic Launch is a testament to our dedication to patient-centered care, innovation, and community engagement. We at KIMS hospital, Secunderabad have access to the best quality latest equipment like Olympus X1 endoscopes and Spirus enteroscopes along with world-class faculty specially trained for management of IBD in prestigious institutions like AIIMS, New Delhi, and PGIMER, Chandigarh.
Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is a term used to describe a group of chronic inflammatory conditions affecting the gastrointestinal tract, primarily the colon and small intestine. It includes conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, which can cause severe discomfort and significantly impact the quality of life for those affected. The prevalence of IBD has been steadily rising over the years, affecting millions of people worldwide. The estimated disease burden in India as of 2010 was around14 lakhs patients which is quite close to the disease burden in the USA (16 lakhs patients)
The cornerstone of our program is awareness and education. We believe that knowledge is power, and by increasing awareness about IBD, we can empower both patients and healthcare professionals to recognize the early signs and symptoms, leading to timelyintervention and improved outcomes. Through community outreach initiatives, educational campaigns, and collaborations with patient advocacy groups, we aim to disseminate accurate information and debunk myths surrounding IBD. IBD requires a multidisciplinary comprehensive management strategy that involves a team of specialists, including gastroenterologists, surgeons, dieticians, psychologists, and nurses. By fostering collaboration and communication among these healthcare professionals, we can ensure that patients receive holistic care, tailored to their individual needs.”
Dr. Sreekanth Appasani and Dr. Bhaskar Kante Consultant Medical Gastroenterologist of KIMS Hospitals said, “We recognize the critical role that research plays in advancing our understanding of IBD and developing innovative treatments. Thanks to our chief guests, Dr. Vineet Ahuja, Professor, AIIMS, New Delhi, and Dr. Vinay K Nandicoori, Director, CCMB, Hyderabad who have agreed to collaborative research activities related to IBD and participating in clinical trials. Lastly, we understand that managing a chronic condition like IBD can be emotionally and psychologically challenging for patients and their families. Therefore, our program places a strong emphasis on providing psychosocial support, counseling, services, and patient support groups. By addressing the emotional well-being of our patients, we can enhance their overall quality of life and empower them to face the challenges of IBD with resilience and positivity.”
