Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya declared through a tweet that India has given approval to Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose COVID-19 vaccine for emergency use. Meanwhile the company said it was too early to predict by when delivery is possible.
Earlier on the large medical conglomerate had applied for emergency use approval of its vaccine, declared the company on Friday. The shot will be brought to India through a supply agreement with vaccine maker Biological E Ltd, as per a statement by J&J.
“While we look forward to meeting our delivery commitments it is premature for us to speculate on the timing of our vaccine deliveries,” the company said in an emailed reply to Reuters.
Indian health authorities have so far approved the use of vaccines developed by AstraZeneca (AZN.L), Bharat Biotech, Russia’s Gamaleya Institute and Moderna.
