AMTZ Adds New Tower to Scale Up MedTech Incubation Capacity

The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) has expanded its startup incubation infrastructure with a new 1-lakh-square-foot tower, adding significant capacity to its Medivalley incubation platform, which operates as an Atal Incubation Centre supported by NITI Aayog under the Atal Innovation Mission.

The new facility is designed to give MedTech startups access to specialised laboratories, prototyping infrastructure and testing facilities, helping them move faster from early-stage ideas to working prototypes and, eventually, regulatory approval. According to reports, the expanded setup is intended to help startups develop prototypes within roughly six months and pursue regulatory clearances within about a year.

Incubation Capacity Set to Double by FY2026

Medivalley currently supports around 150 startups and is targeting an expansion to 300 ventures by FY2026 — effectively doubling its incubation capacity through this new tower. The centre sits within AMTZ’s larger 270-acre campus in Visakhapatnam, giving resident startups access to shared scientific, regulatory and manufacturing infrastructure across the zone.

Startups incubated at Medivalley get access to NABL-accredited testing labs, CDSCO registration support, BIS recognition pathways, and ISO/IEC 17025-certified calibration services – resources that are typically difficult and expensive for early-stage MedTech ventures to access independently.

Strong Institutional Backing and Funding Pathways

Medivalley’s incubation programme draws support from a mix of national institutions, including DBT-BIRAC, NITI Aayog, DPIIT, ICMR, and the Department of Pharmaceuticals. Reports indicate the incubator has helped mobilise more than ₹60 crore in grants for its startups, including a recent allocation from the Department of Pharmaceuticals.

The centre has also built partnerships with over 150 corporate entities and 50 academic institutions, and has been recognised with accolades such as NITI Aayog’s Best MedTech Incubator award and CII’s MedTech Quality Champion (Platinum) recognition.

Part of a Broader Push for Indigenous MedTech Manufacturing

The expansion comes amid continued institutional interest in AMTZ’s model – a senior NITI Aayog delegation recently visited the campus to review its integrated ecosystem spanning device manufacturing, R&D, diagnostics, testing and startup incubation, describing it as one of India’s more advanced MedTech ecosystems with potential to be replicated elsewhere in the country.

By combining physical infrastructure, regulatory support and funding access under one roof, AMTZ’s Medivalley expansion reflects a broader effort to strengthen India’s indigenous medical device manufacturing base and reduce reliance on imported technology.
