Both hospitals cater to the underprivileged of the society.

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

The journey is challenging as many old-fashioned, false and anti-gender equality beliefs and assumptions still exist in the healthcare sector. The need to empower women in Healthcare is more than ever.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers.

My message is simple: We need a 21st century approach for women’s economic participation in everything. We need to, as I like to say, ‘Dare the difference’. To “dare” means to take risks, to step out of our comfort zones, to let hope extinguish fear and courage conquer it.

Each one of us should focus on adding sustainable value to the healthcare delivery system. More than exceptional growth, we should look forward to sharing more stories of operational success and its impact on the community at large. We should closely work with market-led functions to ensure sharing of best practices, expeditious resource deployment, and reporting consistency. I am very positive and hopeful that together we can envisage a great future for the healthcare services in our country as we re-imagine and transform healthcare together.

Mrs. Mala Vazirani, Executive Director at Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd.,

Mrs. Mala Vazirani is the Executive Director of Transasia Bio-Medicals Ltd., India’s leading In-vitro Diagnostic Company. Along with her husband and Founder Chairman of Erba-Transasia International Group of Companies, Mr. Suresh Vazirani, Mrs. Mala Vazirani who co-founded the company was inspired to merge her passion to provide access to affordable diagnostics with her desire to build a purpose-driven business.

At Transasia, she plays an integral role in the strategic decision making process for the group. An ardent believer in the power of strong customer relationships, she leaves no stone unturned to ensure that the Transasia team is available for Doctors at all times in order to help them serve their patients better. Working closely with the management team, Mala Vazirani has been a strong advocate of the ‘Make in India’ concept, especially for the manufacturing of medical devices, in order to ensure availability of affordable diagnostics to every Indian.

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

“When I decided to join my husband, Mr. Suresh Vazirani actively in business all of three decades ago, I knew our goal was a long way off. But if we succeeded then we would play a pivotal role in delivery of essential diagnostics and hopefully set up one of India’s Leading In-vitro Diagnostic Companies! So we are blessed that the dream/goal is being realized, and Transasia continues to respond to needs for accurate diagnostics in the country. Even during these tough times of the pandemic, we have stood up to the challenge, through our quick response in R&D and manufacturing of tests for SARS-CoV-2 and other infectious diseases.”

However, nothing comes easy and work still takes a huge part of our time. “As a women leader, I continue to constantly play the balancing act between home, my internal stakeholders and my customers. This is a daily challenge, is not easy, but there is however a deep satisfaction derived from the work itself and the amazing and committed people who make up the team Transasia.”

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers

She firmly believes that by virtue of our nature, women are giving, compassionate, understanding and emotional. “I cannot stress enough the fact that genuine strength comes from keeping the larger picture in mind and bringing to work the whole range of our abilities including our emotions that allow us to be inspired and humane, our culture, traditional family values and even spirituality. Through ones work and family, it’s also possible to realize the purpose of life itself.”

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers

As a fiercely independent, passionate go-getter, she champions female leadership.“I feel a deep sense of responsibility to do my best,” she says, “it could mean being a caring mother, a fearless leader or even an accomplished doctor. It is this very sense of responsibility that an organisation relies on for success.” To other ambitious women, she offers this advice: “Figure out what you’re passionate about and remember that hard work always pays. There is no substitution for dedication. Choose to get out of your comfort zone and dream big. I think you’ll find that you’re capable of so much more than you believe.”

Ms Alisha Moopen, Deputy Managing Director, Aster DM Healthcare

As we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, I would like to express my sincere gratitude and admiration for all women out there who have been nothing less than warriors. Especially, in the past one year, from managing various roles, like being a mother, sister or a daughter to balancing jobs and careers while working from home, we have come a long way where women are no longer simply
accepting roles assigned to them but are challenging the status-quo, getting their voices heard and bringing about changes that matter.
The COVID – 19 pandemic has disrupted our routine and pushed us out of our comfort zones to do things that we probably did not expect. A lot of us have had to adapt to a new adjusted lifestyle juggling family and work within the four walls of our homes, to learning to use new technologies, to adjusting to situations beyond our expectations. However, this breaking out of the safe spaces leads to an environment of learning and this is the message I would like to communicate to you all. Ladies, do not ever think that you are not ready for a new challenge or there is something out there you cannot do. Instead, think of it in a way that you will soon be ready to take up new challenges and what is it that you can do to be more prepared. Gone are the days where we restricted ourselves within our comfort zones,
it is time to move ahead and better ourselves everyday by fearlessly asking for help and support for our own growth and progress.
Lastly, I would once again like to thank each one of you for the tremendous roles that you fulfill. We are an inspiration for one another and together we all are an integral part of the growth and development of our society.

Dr. Manisha Dogra, DGM (Medical Services) CLINICAL AUDIT at Apollo Hospitals

She has thrived to achieve Clinical excellence, Operational excellence, implemented Quality initiatives and accreditation (NABH &JCI), excellent at clinical engagements and resolving issues/ patient grievances to improve efficiency and satisfaction in patient care. With core strength in planning, administration, and monitoring consistent readiness of all quality management, regulatory requirements, and quality-improvement processes, she is also good at people management to achieve/ align employee satisfaction with organizational goals.

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

There are good reasons to believe the healthcare industry is one of the best for women. Better representation at all levels. Women account for approximately 66 percent of all entry-level healthcare employees. While the share of women declines in more senior roles, moving to 30 percent of C-suite positions, healthcare still outperforms all industries. In the past, healthcare was a male-dominated field without much room for women to advance. Although the playing field continues to shift, women still struggle to break through to the higher levels of healthcare. What’s especially interesting about that power dynamic is that women tend to be the primary decision-makers when it comes to health and the care they and their family members receive. Although women play an active role on the receiving side of healthcare, there is still room for her to be represented in the leadership roles of the industry.
With a good mix of Helping, Persuading & Organizing skills, it has been a very interesting and challenging journey for me in healthcare quality.

The “Helping” interest area in me indicates a focus on assisting, serving, counseling, or teaching other people. With the “Persuading” interest area, I focus on influencing, motivating, and convincing other people to get involved and not leave anyone behind. My “Organizing” interest area is focused on working with data, information and processes to keep things arranged in orderly systems so that they progress towards the larger goal.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers.

The women who aspire to lead in the healthcare organization must take action. Furthering one’s education is an important step, which can bring new opportunities, insights, and connections in the field. Women should also create a comprehensive strategy to maximize their capacity for leadership, focusing on:

  • Aligning the strategic direction of an organization with individual goals.
  • Developing the strengths needed to be a leader.
  • Remembering the dynamic nature of healthcare, which seeks innovative leaders who can boost the bottom line while delivering better care

With a clear strategy in place and a degree that shows their commitment and knowledge, women can break through the traditional roles and achieve greater success in the healthcare leadership.

Small Shifts Lead to Bigger Changes!!!!

Last but not the least, we always are busy of thinking of future, but never appreciate the person we have become in the present due to our hard work in the past. Should reflect and give credit to our achievements till the present. A deadly & unfailing motivation for the future.

Dr. Vanita Arora, Director and Head at Max, Saket

It is the Virgin Field of Cardiac Electrophysiology (EP) for Indian Women. Electrophysiologists are cardiologists who study and treat the electrical disturbances of the heart, in other words I am an “electrician” of the heart known for my expertise in the field of cardiac pacing and EP. I am one of the few women in Asia Pacific in this field and out of around 275 heart rhythm specialists in the country, I stand as the first women EP of the country. I practice at Max Healthcare Superspeciality Hospital, Saket, New Delhi, as the Director & Head of Cardiac Electrophysiology department.

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

Though the road to becoming an electrophysiologist is a long one – 12 to 13 years of training, compared to seven or eight for other areas of medicine- EP encompasses a lot of intellect, eye of a hawk, patience and hard work. While this highlights how challenging this field is, it at the same time brings forth the ample opportunities the discipline offers to women medical practitioners and students.

Had I succeded in anything else I would have never succedded in one Erena where I truely belonged. I started from the scratch, ROCK BOTTOM was the place of Solid Foundation on which I build my LIFE with no support and lot of antagonism from male collegues trying to pull me down but failed. I learned to always put patient’s interest as priority and never had second thoughts on achieving perfection and giving extraordinary outcome to the procedures with my signature on it.

Do the one thing you think you cannot do…. Fail at it…….
Try again……Do better the second time. This is your Moment….Own it…….

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers.

I was always told you are too short, you are too fat, you are too dark, your hair are frizzy. That’s how people judge us. I tell them to judge me based on my brilliance, not my looks.

I believe that Women’s Day has been earmarked, to serve as a reminder to us women that we need to keep going. We have miles to go before we rest but that doesn’t mean that we haven’t made a mark yet. There are several faceless, nameless women out there, whose effort I want to salute.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers

Try Your Utmost for the Highest! Get the best out of  yourselves today and every day.  Happy Women’s day!

Dr. Sarika Gupta, Chief radiologist at Saral Diagnostic center

Dr. Gupta shares her strong thoughts on women leadership as, “I was blessed to grow up in a family where a daughter’s desires are nurtured with as much love and affection as a sons’. Medicine has always fascinated me as a profession & radiology intrigued me by the manner in which it provides an insight into body’s internal structure & functioning. I was fortunate that I was able to pursue both by getting my graduate and postgraduate degrees from best medical institutes in the country. I have been practicing radiology for over 16 years now in a leading private set up. While I have thoroughly enjoyed my work, it’s not been all roses. Motherhood, managing a home, being a wife to an extremely busy neurosurgeon while managing my work, have all been challenging. It seems like I am always striving to find the balance, while the pendulum of my life swings between all its vicissitudes.”

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

It has been quite a fruitful journey but I must tell you that I have come a long way. Today, the healthcare industry is filled by women and they make up to around half of the healthcare workforce. An increase in women power has also limited the gender gap in promotions and taking up the leadership position. Today, women in healthcare positions have been reporting higher career satisfaction. Managing the work-life balance has become a cakewalk as now male members of the family have also understood their responsibilities well and have no qualms in sharing the household work. The coronavirus pandemic and its subsequent lockdowns proved out to be a boon in a working woman’s life as the whole family came together and supported each other in their endeavors. The advent of digital healthcare practices has also enabled us to take care of our patients in a more holistic and better way. Now, we feel we are more connected with our patients.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers.

It’s important that you should enjoy and be extremely proud of what you are doing. Every day you should get that adrenaline rush when you start your job. Your job should enhance your skills and make you feel satisfied at the end of the day. But, sometimes not every job needs to address all of your passions. So, it’s pivotal that you should have immense gratitude towards the people you’re associated with because they are the ones who are making you learn something new sometimes in a hard way. But trust me, this hard work will be the stepping stone for a successful life. In this way, you will realise that you enjoyed doing something that you never imagined would appeal to you.

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

My journey as a professional has been humbling, exciting and enriching. I have been lucky to have parents and in-laws, who never gave a second thought about giving me an opportunity in excel in whatever field I choose to pursue. I received similar support at work, and have been given ample opportunity to grow and perform to my full capability. I do not consider myself as a “Women- leader”, I am a professional and a leader. My gender has nothing to do with it.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers

Like men have no option, other than go to work and provide for themselves and for their loved ones, why should women have an option?  Every women should be economically independent. Never lose focus from your career, events in life happen, situations arises, we should always build a support system to handle them, giving up working to take care of those events or short term situations is not the answer. Always work on improving your knowledge, upgrade your skills, this is the only way to help you move up in your career. Hard work, commitment and what value add you will bring in for the growth of your company will determine how far you will go. Every level requires certain knowledge, skills, maturity and risk taking ability. You first build these characters within yourself, before that role or responsibility is assigned to you.

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

I am a WOMAN leader who is representing NOT just the Healthcare industry BUT that getting married to the corporate world through Wellness Strategy. That was tough to convince the corporate world that this is important and can help them grow too, it’s a WIN WIN situation.

I feel you grow when you fall the more. One needs to change challenges into OPPORTUNITIES. I was always clear and exactly knew what I wanted to do. I gathered knowledge, experience and created my vision of preventive health and wellness especially in the corporate world and BELIEVED in my Vision STRONGLY!

I also see many women suppressing their feelings to WORK because of home pressures / society norms and Priority to family responsibilities. But if you BBB:

  1. Break Barrier
  2. Believe in your passion
  3. Balance all roles

You can follow your dreams /passion with enthusiasm, work hard with compassion…. everything falls into place. Women I feel are more resilient and when you mix that up with BALANCING YOUR LIFE. It became easier for us to rise

When you get into an organization like Concentrix who gives you wings of Trust and Opportunity. The only thing you do is FLY.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers

To all women who want to become Leaders:

  • Wellness for Self is extremely important in entire journey of life
  • Balancing act:  celebrate all roles in life
  • Create more women leaders who are deserving: Coach them and help them upskill
  • Your team your extended family
  • #Trust Your Team (this learning I owe to my CNX Mentor Tarun Tandon)
  • Real Leader: It’s ok to be vulnerable: gone are the days when Leaders have to be STRONG, it gives a feeling of UNREAL!
  • Open to learn from all, accept feedback. “It is what it is” Just doesn’t work anymore!
  • Lead from the back
  • Empathetic leadership is here to rule forever

In the end I also feel THAT when you are A LEADER, it doesn’t matter if YOU ARE MAN OR A WOMAN.

A LEADER has NO GENDER! But a Role and Character you play on the stage called life!

Dr. R. M. Anjana Managing Director and Diabetologist, Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre &
Vice President, Madras Diabetes Research Foundation, Chennai.

Dr. Mohan’s Diabetes Specialties Centre is a diabetes speciality chain founded in the year 1991 headquartered in Chennai, now spanning across 32 cities (50+ centres) in India. It is India’s leading diabetes care provider offering comprehensive services for diabetes patients. Most patients with diabetes in India seek clinical care for managing only the end-effects of uncontrolled diabetes: heart attacks, kidney failure, blindness and foot amputations. We, at Dr Mohan’s Diabetes, are attempting to turn this paradigm on its head by focusing on patients with diabetes before they develop these complications. We help them avoid these adverse outcomes by controlling diabetes well and diagnosing complications sufficiently early so as to limit organ damage and limb loss.  Our services would help provide a long life without complications from diabetes to our patients.

I am the Managing Director & Consultant Diabetologist, Dr.Mohan’s Diabetes Specialities Centre.

Journey as a woman leader in healthcare

My journey began quite early since I grew up watching my parents, who were entrepreneurs as well as leading Medical practitioners. Diabetes, back then, was not recognised as a medical speciality in our country. My father, now a living legend in the field of diabetes, decided that diabetes warranted the creation of a dedicated single speciality hospital and started the journey that has become a part of history now. My parents created a novel and combined health care delivery model pivoted on research.  Delivery of evidence based treatments and encapsulating it as a business was a novel concept, particularly in India and addressed a yawning gap in the health care delivery system of the country.  I was born into this ecosystem and hence took to it like a fish to water. I stepped into this ecology ten years back and now I have grown this brand phenomenallyToday it is a Nationally and Internationally recognised Diabetes destination. When I stepped in as Managing Director of our Institution, we were a “Chennai” based Diabetology centre. In the past 10 years, we have consolidated our business, and now expanded Pan India to 9 states. We are now a Nationally recognised brand for Diabetes – having been named as the No1 Brand for Diabetes in India repeatedly by Times of India, The WEEK, Economic Times, FICCI, ASSOCHAM etc . The uniform quality and standard of care throughout our 50 centres spread across 32 cities is ensured by rigorous training through DMDEA – Dr Mohan’s Diabetes Education Academy, the education wings of our institutions.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers

Fact is investing our energy to mend the things right at a later stage, its better to build right.  So is the life of a girl child who grows up to become a woman, hope and future for the next generation. Women are the building block of society and she has the full potential to bring change. What is needed is an empowered and educated woman who can work in the right direction paving the path for self and for others.

Education is the only key to bring this change into reality. And a supporting society that banishes stereotype prejudice and let the ladies live the life of growth and development participating contributing to the society in economic, social reforms and development.

Still, In India, a girl thought the brilliant and outstanding child in schooling education and career is forced to get marry sidelining her future and aspirations. This mindset of society needs to be subdued. Our society which is sadly still based on patriarchal structures with misogynists abound, diminish the power of educated women.

A potent way to create more support among women and give women a stronger voice in our society is to teach our daughters how to appreciate other girls as well as teach them healthy self-esteem. The power of unity is the essence. When women come together to support each other, it is nothing less than a storm.

A message for the women wanting to excel in their careers

Today, women hold most powerful positions in the different industries and I take inspiration from them. And this is what I want to say to all the women population out there that you must give your full dedication and efforts in whatever you are doing and nobody can stop you from being successful. Our strength comes from the troubles and distress that we face every day and we grow out even stronger. Also, women must support other women in their field, support young women by encouraging them to take over new jobs and responsibilities. Women dons various hats – a mother, daughter, wife; and while taking care of others we forget ourselves. Thus, we must take care of ourselves as well, not ignore our health including emotional & mental health.

There is no limit to what we, as women, can accomplish. Wishing you a Happy Women’s Day!
