KLE – Suchirayu Hospital and HCG NMR Cancer Centre, Hubli marked International Women’s Day with a one-of-its-kind campaign called ‘Colours of Empowerment.’ As a part of this campaign, they organized the #InHerShoes walkathon, where men walked in stilettos along with their female partners to experience what it is like to be in a woman’s shoes and understand the challenges and difficulties that women often endure in the presence of the chief guest Shri Basavaraj Horatti, honourable Chairman of Karnataka Legislative Council. The initiative aimed to showcase the resilience and strength of women while highlighting the challenges they face on the daily basis. It was also a celebration of women’s achievements, as participants walked together in solidarity to promote gender equality and women empowerment.

The participants of the #InHerShoes walkathon showcased their support for women’s empowerment by wearing pink, yellow, and blue t-shirts which symbolized power, courage, and freedom. The event witnessed participation from men accompanied by their partners, which included spouses, daughters & mothers.

In addition to the walkathon, HCG also initiated a social experiment as part of the campaign. The experiment involved setting up public spaces at Urban Oasis Mall where men were challenged to walk in stilettos and share their experiences on how it actually feels to be in her shoes. It aimed to create a powerful visual message, serving as a symbol of the everyday struggles of women.  By challenging men to walk in stilettos, HCG hoped to encourage a greater understanding and appreciation for the physical and emotional pain that women experience.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Jaikishen Agiwal, Cluster Head, KLE – Suchirayu & HCG Cancer Centre Hubli, said “To commemorate International Women’s Day, we challenged men to step out of their comfort zones and into the shoes of women, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of their struggles. We recognize that it’s not a simple task to put oneself in someone else’s shoes, but we believe it’s crucial to make an effort. Women face various challenges on a daily basis, yet they confront them with a positive attitude and tackle them with pragmatism.”

The ‘Colours of Empowerment’ campaign highlights HCG’s ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality and women’s empowerment. It encourages others to join them in this important cause and help create a better future for all women.
