A 48-year-old woman presented with speech disturbances and progressive headaches. She was diagnosed with a large tumor at KIMS Hospital in Kurnool. Dr. Sumanth Kumar, the consultant neurosurgeon, explained the details of the condition.
“Mrs. M. Eeswaramma, aged 48 developed a large tumor in the brain. Initially, she went to another hospital, and doctors referred her case to us. On evaluation, she was found to have a large tumor (Large Potato) measuring 4.6×4.1×4.8 cm involving the left temporal skull base region with significant surrounding brain edema. The left temporal region of the brain is responsible for speech and memory. As this tumor involves this region, it was a difficult scenario for the patient’s family to decide on surgery as there are high chances of further worsening of these functions. But, as Kurnool KIMS hospital has state-of-the-art facilities along with a specialist doctors team, we have decided to take up the surgery. As the tumor was very large, it took 14 long hours to completely remove this safely without any compromising to her abilities and achieved near total resection. Post-surgery, all her symptoms settled well, and she is living a quite normal life” explained Dr. Sumanth Kumar.
