Maharashtra FDA cancels Cipla Pune warehouse licence over alleged drug packaging and storage violations.

The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has cancelled the drug sale and distribution licences of Cipla Pharma & Life Sciences Ltd’s warehouse in Wadki, Pune, citing alleged violations involving medicine packaging, storage conditions and inventory management.

The action follows an inspection concerning Reactin Plus Tablets, a Schedule H prescription medicine. The FDA flagged allegedly misleading packaging claims, inadequate storage arrangements, expired medicines not segregated properly, and discrepancies between physical stock and computerised inventory records.

The licensing authority issued a fresh show-cause notice on September 4, 2026. After receiving Cipla’s response on September 11 and conducting a personal hearing on September 21, the FDA issued its cancellation order on October 1.

The latest action follows an earlier FDA seizure of Reactin Plus stock valued at ₹11.2 lakh in August over packaging-related concerns. Cipla had contested the earlier order, stating that the matter was under judicial consideration.

The cancellation applies to the specified Pune warehouse’s licences and does not amount to a blanket cancellation of Cipla’s drug licences. The action highlights regulatory scrutiny of pharmaceutical storage, labelling and distribution practices.
