In her early twenties, at the age of 24, a young woman found herself distressed by the presence of a cyst on her left lower lip, a health concern she had been grappling with for over a year.

Feeling overwhelmed and stressed, the young woman struggled with uncertainty. The cyst on her lower lip not only made her feel uncomfortable by detracting from her natural beauty but also proved to be a hindrance during eating and speaking, adding to her distress.

Niket Nayan joined Medibuddy in December 2022 as a Care Buddy with Surgery Care “My primary objective was to provide comfort and reassurance. I explained to her that modern surgical techniques were available at her nearest hospital, and a minor procedure could effectively address her health concerns at an affordable cost. I assured her that this presented an opportunity for a successful and swift recovery, offering her hope and encouragement during this challenging time.

In my capacity as a CareBuddy, I placed considerable emphasis on elucidating how Medibuddy could seamlessly facilitate the surgery and streamline the insurance process for her. I needed to ensure that she felt completely assured and confident about proceeding with the surgery, which she expressed.

I, Niket Nayan, as her dedicated CareBuddy, would like to acknowledge the challenging experience the patient faced at the renowned hospital she initially visited. It’s disheartening to hear about the significant time, effort, and financial resources she invested in consultations, tests, and medicines, only to be informed on the day of the scheduled surgery that it couldn’t be possible due to a lack of necessary equipment.

I encouraged her not to lose hope and to consider seeking treatment at another hospital, even if it meant traveling approximately 50 kilometers from her location. My goal remains to support her in navigating this difficult journey and to ensure she receives the care and attention she deserves.

I suggested to the patient that she consider visiting another renowned hospital and advised her to take advantage of a free doctor consultation. After attending the consultation, the hospital provided an estimate for the total cost of the surgery and hospitalization. Upon checking her insurance eligibility, we discovered that her available insurance balance fell short of covering the actual cost of the surgery. “

The patient expressed concerns about both the travel distance (50 kilometers) and the cost of the surgery, indicating a preference to postpone the procedure to a later month. Understanding her apprehensions, Niketan respected her decision and continued to provide support. Approximately two months later, he followed up with the patient again and suggested that she proceed with another hospital for the surgery. We had heard positive feedback about this hospital, and its expertise, pricing, and experienced doctors. We sent out the insurance eligibility and the estimated request to the new hospital and were thrilled to discover that the cost was almost in line with the current insurance balance of the patient. This news brought the patient much relief, and she finally expressed her willingness to proceed with the surgery.

The patient ultimately agreed to proceed with a ‘Left Lip Vascular Malformation – Radiofrequency Ablation with Sclerotherapy Surgery’ at LifeCare Hospital, to be performed by an interventional radiologist.

The surgery to address the mucocele cyst, led by an Interventional Radiologist and a team of doctors, involves the below steps: Laser Treatment: A special laser is used to remove the lesion. Laser treatment allows for precise targeting of the affected tissue, ensuring thorough removal of any remaining cyst or abnormal tissue. If necessary, an oral surgeon may perform surgical excision to cut out and remove the cyst completely. This step involves making a precise incision in the lip tissue to access and remove the cyst, ensuring that no residual tissue remains.

The surgery date was finalized for the 13th of January 2024. The surgery commenced around 4 PM as scheduled and lasted approximately one hour. I am pleased to report that the procedure was completed successfully. Niketan diligently handled all necessary approvals, which included verifying insurance eligibility and securing pre-authorization for the patient’s admission. The entire Medibuddy Team, consisting of CareBuddies, Clinical Coordinators, and the Insurance Team, collaborated closely to devise an almost fully cashless plan.

The patient’s mother expressed profound gratitude, praising MediBuddy for its excellent support and full ownership throughout the entire process. This acknowledgment underscores the dedication and commitment of our team to providing comprehensive care and support to our patients, ensuring their well-being and happiness.

In the patient’s own words, she shared, ‘I appreciate MediBuddy’s innovative work, benefiting people across India by making high-quality healthcare affordable and accessible to all.
