The present building of the Padma Bhushan Vasantdada Patil Hospital at Sangli, which is linked to the Government Medical College at Miraj, is dilapidated and about to collapse. To replace this old building of Sangli’s Padma Bhushan Vasantdada Patil Hospital into a new with accommodation of 500 beds, Medical Education Minister Amit Vilasrao Deshmukh today directed to send the proposal immediately.
He was speaking at a meeting held at the ministry on enhancing the facilities of Miraj Government Medical College. The meeting was attended by Sangli District Congress President Prithviraj Patil, Medical Education Secretary Saurabh Vijay, Medical Education Director Dr. Tatyarao Lahane, Sangli Government Medical College Dean Dr. Sudhir Nandkar, Superintendent Engineer at Public Works Department Mane, Executive Engineer Rokade and other senior officers were present.
Due to the increase in the student admission capacity of Sangli Government Medical College from 2018, it was necessary to increase the number of hospital beds linked to this college as per the norms of the Medical Council of India. In order to avoid this error, a proposal has been invited for a new hospital building. A proposal to construct a hostel building for 200 resident doctors in the same hospital area, to build a new morgue building and to provide additional manpower for the 300 newly available beds has also been directed by the Medical Education Minister in today’s meeting.
