We all know the field of Healthcare in India is rapidly growing and advancing. The growth is observed not only in the traditional sectors of Hospitals and Pharmaceuticals but also in the newly emerging field of Medical tourism where the demand for Indian healthcare services has increased significantly in the international community as well.
With new medical advances in healthcare there is a strong need for innovative practices to overcome challenges faced in this sectors collectively for long-term growth and sustainability.
Medical tourism is one of the sectors, which is important to both Healthcare, and Tourism industry of our country. A combination of many factors has led to the recent increase in popularity of medical tourism: exorbitant costs of healthcare in developed nations, ease and affordability of international travel, favourable currency exchange rates in the global economy, rapidly improving technology and standards of care. A combination of three key factors – quality, availability and cost has been key factors in fuelling the phenomenal growth witnessed in the Indian medical tourism industry. Medical tourism services could include complex specialized surgeries such as joint replacement (knee/hip), cardiac surgery, IVF, dental surgery, and cosmetic surgeries. But other types of health care like psychiatry, alternative treatments (example, Ayurveda), convalescent care, wellness etc. are also available. Though the industry has shown increasing potential in the last few years, most of the international patients from Middle East and Europe still prefer countries like Thailand where medical services are at par with India but they prefer it due to the ease of obtaining visa and friendly mind-set and general attitude of the people towards tourists. There is also a need to curate quality destinations within India where differentiated experience that is unique could be provided to the quality-seeking visitors, Quality medical tourism destinations could also help us with sustainable growth that will be innovative, productive and lean. There is also a need to undertake an international marketing campaign to create awareness amongst the global community about the facilities rendered by Indian healthcare institutions. In order to boost medical tourisms strong efforts need to be made towards the same.
We at Wadia Hospitals strongly believe in providing quality care at affordable costs for all individuals who visit us including international patients.
