Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital (MSSH) has introduced the Toumai MT-1000 Pro Robotic Surgical System, significantly strengthening its robotic surgery programme and expanding access to advanced minimally invasive procedures in South India. The addition of the next generation robotic platform reinforces the hospital’s commitment to technology driven healthcare and precision surgery, enabling surgeons to perform complex procedures with greater accuracy, flexibility and patient safety.

The Toumai MT-1000 Pro, developed by MicroPort MedBot, is equipped with high-definition 3D visualisation, multi arm robotic technology and highly articulated surgical instruments that replicate the natural movements of the human wrist. The system is designed to enhance surgical precision while minimising tissue trauma, blood loss and post-operative pain. It will support a wide range of specialties, including urology, surgical oncology, gastrointestinal surgery, gynaecology, hepatobiliary surgery and thoracic surgery, allowing surgeons to undertake highly complex procedures through small incisions.

Located in Madurai, Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital is a 340-bed tertiary care facility with 46 clinical specialties and over 400 expert doctors. The hospital has steadily expanded its advanced surgical capabilities through investments in robotic operating theatres, high-end imaging systems and modern critical care infrastructure. The introduction of the Toumai robotic platform further strengthens its position as one of South India’s leading centres for robotic assisted surgery and advanced patient care.

Robotic assisted surgery is witnessing rapid adoption worldwide due to its proven clinical benefits. According to industry estimates, the global surgical robotics market is projected to exceed US$25 billion by 2030, driven by increasing demand for minimally invasive procedures and technological advancements in surgical automation. Studies have shown that robotic surgery can result in smaller incisions, reduced blood loss, lower complication rates, shorter hospital stays and faster recovery, while providing surgeons with superior dexterity and visualisation during complex operations.

Healthcare experts believe the deployment of the Toumai MT-1000 Pro represents a significant advancement in Tamil Nadu’s surgical infrastructure. By combining cutting edge robotic technology with specialist clinical expertise, Meenakshi Super Speciality Hospital is expected to improve surgical outcomes, enhance patient safety and expand access to advanced minimally invasive procedures, further strengthening Madurai’s position as a major healthcare destination in South India.
