Mumbai hosted the 2nd edition of the Young Neurosurgeons Forum Conference (YNFCON
2026), a flagship initiative of the Neurological Society of India (NSI), from June 19–21, 2026.
Supported by Fortis Hospital, Mulund, the three day conference witnessed participation from
over 600 young neurosurgeons, academicians, researchers and mentors from across India
and several countries including Sri Lanka, Hong Kong, Bangladesh, Nepal, Malaysia and the
United States.
The conference was conceptualized as a unique platform where young neurosurgeons were
encouraged to lead scientific discussions, present research, showcase innovations and
exchange ideas with peers and senior mentors. Unlike traditional conferences where senior
experts predominantly lead discussions, YNFCON placed emerging specialists at the
forefront while experienced neurosurgeons served as guides, mentors and evaluators.
The scientific program featured discussions on emerging technologies, artificial intelligence,
robotics, endovascular interventions, neurotrauma, brain tumour surgery, spine surgery,
paediatric neurosurgery and innovation in neurosurgical research. Delegates also gained
access to dedicated mentorship sessions focused on career planning, academics, research
presentation, fellowship opportunities and navigating different professional pathways within
neurosurgery.
One of the key attractions of the conference was the Shark Pitch Award, a unique platform
inspired by entrepreneurial pitch forums, where young neurosurgeons presented innovative
ideas, digital solutions and clinical concepts before a panel of experts & industry leaders.
Selected innovations received mentorship, recognition and opportunities for further
development.
The conference also featured 14 simulation and skill development labs demonstrating the
application of emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR)
and Augmented Reality (AR) in neurosurgical education, training and research. Additionally,
a dedicated session on the AI Revolution in Neurosurgery explored how technology
transformed diagnostics, surgical planning, decision making and patient outcomes.
Recognising the importance of holistic well-being among healthcare professionals, the
conference also marked International Yoga Day, on June 21st, 2026, with a special yoga
session, promoting physical and mental wellness among participants.
Dr Jayesh Sardhara, Organizing Chairman and President of Young Neurosurgery
Forum India and Director MIS Brain & Spine Surgery, Fortis Hospitals Mumbai said,
“The Young Neurosurgery Forum India was envisioned to create a platform where young
minds can confidently present their ideas, challenge conventional thinking and actively
shape the future of neurosurgery. YNFCON 2026 is not just a scientific conference; it is a
mentorship driven ecosystem that encourages innovation, collaboration and leadership
among the next generation of neurosurgeons. By bringing together young talent and
experienced mentors from India and across the world, we hope to foster meaningful
learning, global partnerships and advancements that ultimately benefit patients.”
Dr Vishal Beri, Facility Director, Fortis Hospital, Mulund, said, “Healthcare is undergoing
a significant transformation driven by technology, innovation and interdisciplinary
collaboration. Conferences such as YNFCON play an important role in nurturing future
healthcare leaders by providing them with access to global expertise, cutting edge
technologies and mentorship opportunities. We are proud to support an initiative that
empowers young neurosurgeons, encourages innovation and creates a platform for
knowledge exchange that can contribute to the advancement of neurological sciences in
India and beyond.”
The importance of early diagnosis and precision treatment continues to be a key area of
focus for young neurosurgeons across the country, including initiatives led by Dr Rushabh
Chheda, Organizing Secretary of the Young Neurosurgery Forum India and
Consultant Neurosurgery, Fortis Hospitals Mumbai.
The conference will also host international collaboration sessions involving young
neurosurgical forums and associations from across Asia and other regions, providing
participants with exposure to global best practices, emerging opportunities and future
directions in neurosurgical education and practice.
As neurological disorders continue to contribute significantly to the global disease burden,
initiatives such as YNFCON aim to strengthen the capabilities of young specialists,
encourage innovation led problem solving and create a collaborative environment that
supports the future growth of neurosurgical sciences.
