Scientists from NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) have released the blueprint, via an open-source licence, for a wearable that warns users against touching their faces to help cut the risk of COVID-19 transmission. Called “PULSE”, the necklace detects when a wearer’s hand is approaching their face using an infrared-based proximity sensor and vibrates as a warning. It uses 3D-printed parts.
