Jagat Prakash Nadda on Monday confirmed that no Ebola case has been reported in India so far, while reviewing the country’s preparedness amid rising global concern over the outbreak in parts of Africa.

According to an official statement, the Health Minister chaired a high-level meeting with senior officials of the Union Health Ministry to assess India’s readiness and ensure all preventive and surveillance mechanisms remain fully alert and operational.

During the meeting, officials reviewed airport screening protocols, surveillance systems, isolation facilities, laboratory preparedness, and coordination with state health departments. The Centre has also advised health authorities to closely monitor passengers arriving from Ebola affected countries and strengthen infection control measures across hospitals and healthcare institutions.

The review comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Ebola outbreak a Public Health Emergency of International Concern. Ebola Virus Disease is a severe and often fatal illness, with previous outbreaks recording fatality rates between 25% and 90%, according to WHO estimates.

Health officials stated that India’s integrated disease surveillance network and emergency response systems are actively monitoring the situation. The government has also urged citizens to avoid non essential travel to affected regions including the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan.

Experts say early detection, contact tracing, isolation, and strict infection control protocols remain critical in preventing the spread of Ebola. India had earlier strengthened its outbreak preparedness systems during the COVID-19 pandemic, which health authorities believe will support rapid response measures if required.

The Union Health Ministry said it continues to closely track global developments and remains in coordination with international health agencies to ensure public health safety and preparedness across the country.
