Philips has launched Oxygenate 5, a stationary oxygen concentrator in India, expanding its sleep and respiratory care portfolio amid the growing burden of chronic respiratory diseases and increasing demand for long-term oxygen therapy at home.
Designed for patients requiring supplemental oxygen over extended periods, Oxygenate 5 delivers continuous oxygen flow ranging from 0.5 to 5 litres per minute (LPM). The device is intended to support home-based respiratory management, helping patients receive prescribed oxygen therapy outside hospital settings.
The launch comes against the backdrop of India’s respiratory disease burden. According to a systematic review and meta-analysis cited in the company’s announcement, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) affects approximately 13% of Indian adults, with prevalence rising to 27% among people aged 60 years and above.
Oxygenate 5 incorporates several features aimed at improving patient and caregiver convenience. It operates at a sound level of less than 40 dB, includes an easy-to-read digital flowmeter and is designed with nine levels of filtration. Its user-replaceable filters are intended to simplify routine maintenance and potentially reduce recurring consumable expenses.
The device comes with four additional air-inlet filters and one additional air filter. Philips has also specified a 10,000-hour sieve warranty and a three-year limited warranty, supporting long-term equipment use.
Commenting on the launch, Bharath Sesha, Managing Director, Philips Indian Subcontinent, said reliable oxygen therapy is important for people living with chronic respiratory conditions. He highlighted the need for solutions that make long-term treatment simpler, dependable and accessible for patients and their families.
The introduction reflects the broader shift towards home-based respiratory care, particularly for patients requiring long-term oxygen support. Stationary oxygen concentrators extract and concentrate oxygen from ambient air, reducing dependence on repeated oxygen cylinder refills.
Philips will showcase Oxygenate 5 at NAPCON 2026 in Kolkata, providing an opportunity to present the technology to respiratory healthcare professionals.
The launch adds to India’s expanding home healthcare technology landscape. However, access to long-term oxygen therapy will also depend on affordability, electricity availability, equipment maintenance and appropriate medical supervision. Philips has clarified that oxygen therapy should be used only on the prescription of a qualified healthcare professional based on individual clinical requirements.
