(iii) How did you overcome the challenges as a Top Leading Hospital in Covid-19 times?
The global pandemic of COVID-19 has burdened the entire healthcare sector across the globe. The impact of COVID 19 pandemic on healthcare sector in India is extremely substantial as we are at the forefront of it. The entire healthcare sector is concentrated on prevention, diagnosis, treatment and containment of COVID-19 infection and this is affecting the timely diagnosis and treatment of other chronic diseases.
With the patients facing problem in movement and fear of COVID 19 spreading across hospitals, the health condition of these patients might end up getting more severe, which will in due course increase the overall burden of diseases on our healthcare system. With more focus of public hospitals on the COVID 19 situation, the low socio-economic group patients which are highly dependent of the government set-ups for all their medical requirements are getting impacted the most including the emergency acute conditions, which would in turn influence the quality of life. We planned tactically with the correct gears and associates, to positively help the society. We adopted strategies like reallocating resources and by embracing new digital modalities for providing healthcare, which continue to adopt even after the crisis is over.
(iv) About your Mission & Vision?
The mission and vision is simple, providing quality and affordable healthcare for all. If we will be able to get the basic things right everything else will fall in place.
With so much of increasing complexity in the health needs of our people the field of healthcare management becomes more and more challenging each day. Also what makes this profession more challenging is a multitude of stakeholders and activities that are involved in running a healthcare organization like physicians and nurses, highly trained employees, ensuring various policies and procedures are complied as per norms, managing supplies, equipment’s and keeping pace with constantly evolving healthcare technology etc. Being a people oriented field it is always necessary to maintain that balance between caring and the sustainability of the organization
(v) How competitive you are in your Services?
We try to excel in every front and achieve the maximum for our stakeholders and community at large. Our hope comes from the smile of so many children who are born and treated in our hospitals everyday and we strive for the same smile in the upcoming years.

Bomi Bhote, Chief Executive Officer, Ruby Hall Clinic

Please tell us about your hospital?
Embracing quality improvement, personalised healthcare and high-end technology for over six decades, Ruby Hall Clinic is an 850-bedded multi-speciality tertiary hospital including a 130-bedded hospital at Wanowrie, a 70-bedded hospital at Hinjawadi and 24 peripheral centres across Maharashtra with over 4000 working staff members.
We have won numerous national and international accolades such as the ‘Best Organ Transplant Centre’ by the Govt. of India; ‘Best Medical Tourism Facility. by then-President Smt. Pratibha Patil and a shield from Late Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam for setting up a state-of-the-art cancer centre. Additionally, we are the first centre in Pune to perform heart transplants. In fact, we are the only hospital in India to have acquired eight NABH and NABL accreditations and certifications in healthcare by the Quality Council of India in addition to global recognition for our high standards of care.
I can proudly say that today, Ruby Hall Clinic delivers services that go way beyond traditional healthcare. We’ve been doing what we do for over 60 years, and we’ll continue to build on our success for years to come.
How do you see your hospital as Top Leading Hospital in India?
In an industry that is continually evolving, Ruby Hall Clinic has poised itself to be prepared for the changes to the system as they come, particularly as we shift our focus from reactive care to preventive care. We have a history of proactively anticipating these changes and responding to them before the rest of the players. Despite all these changes in the market itself, our patients have always been at the heart of our operations. Our eight NABH and NABL quality accreditations and certifications in medicine are proof of this very notion. As one of the forerunners in being bestowed with such accreditations, our focus on high-quality patient care speaks volumes in itself. Moreover, our super-specialist doctors have a track record of excellence. Going beyond reputation and word-of-mouth, our tertiary care services are known to have an excellent rate of results. When it comes to investing in the latest technology or even promoting organ donation in the country, Ruby Hall Clinic has the first-mover advantage further strengthening our position in the healthcare market. Take, for instance, the fact that we’ve been the first to perform pioneering robotic surgeries in the city. Or even the fact that we have a cutting-edge cancer care facility and an all-women managed breast care clinic. Together, we’ve managed to use our expertise to help people be as healthy as they can be. But it’s not just about our expertise. It’s about support, encouragement and care – not only for our patients but also for our employees. It’s because we care, that we do the best we can. And be the best we can be.
How did you overcome the challenges as a Top Leading Hospital in Covid-19 times?
Initially, when COVID-19 struck, we were amongst the first few hospitals that were leading the fight from the front. Since the surge in cases began, we were extremely well prepared. We designated separate COVID and non-COVID areas within the hospital, created triage areas, anticipated a higher influx of patients, undertook safety measures during surgeries, ensured robust disinfection practices and participated in a programme to make Indian ventilators.
We focussed our efforts on minimising physical contact as much as possible and deployed the strengths of AI (artificial intelligence) for better patient outcomes, actively utilised telemedicine for care, robots for surgery, e-transactions for payments, AI chatbots for patient information, tie-ups with nearby hotels for patient isolation and webinars for staff training. More importantly, we fine-tuned our daily planning strategies and tactics based on the fluid nature of the outbreak while maintaining the highest level of integrity and transparency. We also partnered with hospitality setups in the vicinity to ensure the continuum of care was maintained for patients and even team members that needed monitoring. Eventually, we partnered with central and state authorities to distribute COVID vaccines while ensuring a successful rollout plan. We trained our nurses, managed the centralised IT system that governed the booking of vaccinations and launched a campaign against vaccine hesitancy. We continued to bust myths surrounding the vaccine and provided the most accurate information to employees, patients and the community at large.
Could you talk about Ruby Hall Clinic’s mission and vision?
Our late founder, Dr. K.B. Grant entrusted us with a unique legacy that continues to pave the path and inspires to strengthen and grow. Enhancing our position as a recognised leader in the country, we have strived to make quality patient care our priority. Blending compassion with the marvel of technology to make a real difference in the lives of our patients has always been our mission. As a socially responsible hospital, we feel a deep sense of pride and commitment to all those who place their trust in our care and our ‘patient comes first’ policy has been a part of this very philosophy.
How competitive are you in your Services?
At Ruby Hall Clinic, we’ve always believed in thinking about tomorrow’s healthcare today. And this, I believe, makes us stand out amongst our competitors. We have begun to expedite our expansion strategy by focusing on the rapidly growing demand for innovative and comprehensive solutions to support the digital transformation of the healthcare ecosystem. We’ve always charted unknown waters and led from the front.
Be it our award-winning RHC mobile app which was amongst the first in the city to even our newly launched Lab App. We have already incorporated a new EMR system, actively use robotics in surgeries, invested in world-class advanced equipment such as the Halcyon and Truebeam Varian for diagnostics in cancer care and have recently ordered a hybrid cath lab amongst others. Our purpose is simple: to build a digitally enabled healthcare ecosystem where we actively collaborate across the continuum of care to improve each patient’s health outcomes.
We’re also constantly innovating while keeping the changing needs of today’s patients in focus. From contemporary on-demand cuisines to bespoke interiors our Signature Suites have redefined luxury healthcare and this rivals even the finest five-star hotels. Keeping in mind patient comfort, we are also among the first few hospitals in the country to have tied up with financial institutions wherein any patient with medical insurance can avail a loan for their hospitalisation costs within a matter of minutes. As we continue to propel forward, Ruby Hall Clinic will constantly innovate, after all, it comes down to what will benefit our patients the most both today and in the years to come.

How do you see your Hospital as Top Leading Hospital in India?
AMRI Hospitals brings to the table a class of its own, making the healthcare group a major player in keeping Eastern India ahead of the curve. The Group offers a variety of treatment solutions, and has notched up several ‘first time in India’ and ‘first time in Eastern India’ records in terms of using latest technologies and breaking new grounds. From pioneering leadless pacemakers to using mesh & glue for stitch-less orthopaedic surgeries, the Hospital group has been providing value-for-money services, ever since its launch in 1996. Over the last 25 years, AMRI’s hallmark has been a committed team of doctors and caregivers, who take up the challenge of treating the most complicated cases, besides stepping up to handle Emergency and Critical Care with dedication, expertise and compassion. The healthcare Group has made immense contributions to the lives of people, not just from Kolkata and the rest of Eastern India, but also from other parts of South Asia and the world.
How did you overcome the challenges as a Top Leading Hospital in Covid-19 times?
Every since its beginning, AMRI Hospitals has recorded exemplary clinical outcome, which has continued to be the Group’s priority even during the COVID-19 pandemic, from its first appearance in 2020. Even though the pandemic came as a major disruptor, like it has been across India, given the initial lack of knowledge about the virus, we managed to find our foothold soon. We started by making significant changes to our infrastructure and modified our SOPs to meet the needs of the hour. We set up isolation wards, formulated fresh protocols for treatment, infection control, and sanitisation, ensured the safety and well-being of doctors, nurses, and other staff, so that we could continue functioning normally for our patients.
We became the first private hospital in Eastern India to dedicate a building for COVID patients, and by March 2021, we had four of our seven towers in Kolkata set aside for the purpose. We also tied up with hotels to set up satellite centres, and even turned India’s largest soccer stadium at Salt Lake into a field, besides creating several clinical records by sending back home even the most critical COVID-19 patients.
AMRI Hospitals’ Mission & Vision
AMRI Hospitals brings to the table a class of its own, making the healthcare group a major player in keeping Eastern India ahead of the curve. The Group treats more than 4.5 lakh people every year and conducts around 15,000 surgeries annually, providing value-for-money services, backed by advanced equipment and latest technologies. The hallmark of AMRI Hospitals is a committed team of doctors and caregivers, who take up the challenge of treating the most complicated cases, besides stepping up to handle Emergency and Critical Care with dedication, expertise and compassion. Over the last three decades, the healthcare Group has made immense contributions to the lives of people, not just from Kolkata and the rest of Eastern India, but also from other parts of South Asia and the world.
How competitive you are in your services?
The focus of AMRI Hospitals is to provide its patients value-for-money treatment and services, supported by world class human resources and latest technologies. Every since its beginning, AMRI has been a market leader in quality healthcare and has been the first healthcare group to introduce several new technologies to not just Eastern India, but across the entire nation. We have conducted pioneering surgeries & procedures, from nano pacemakers to TAVI in cardiac care, use of O-ARM for advanced neuro care, and Renal Denervation Therapy, the latest in hypertension management, among various other such advanced equipment and implants across various specialities.
We also launched the 361o initiative, which takes a holistic approach towards healthcare, and as the name suggests, goes a step beyond by providing value-added services, like virtual home care, telemedicine, cab services to and fro for OPD patients, and home sample collection, among many other features. At AMRI, we continue to look for advanced technologies so that we can provide our patients the best clinical outcome, which gives us an edge over others in the sector.
