Nova IVF Fertility, one of India’s largest fertility chains organised a fertility conference in Delhi to highlight emerging trends and medical advancements in IVF. Fertility Specialists at Nova IVF, Delhi reported that 50-60% of infertility cases in women are now linked to a poor ovarian reserve. Historically, low ovarian reserve was predominantly observed in women in their late 30s. However, Fertility specialists at Nova IVF are increasingly noticing this condition in women in their late 20s.

Dr Sonia Malik, Chief Clinical Mentor, at Nova IVF Fertility, Vasant Vihar discussed her views on the rising incidence of low ovarian reserve in women, especially in Delhi, saying,

“Earlier the age range for low ovarian reserve was noticed among women in their late 30s and early 40s, however today it is alarming that even women in their late 20s are seeing the prevalence of this condition.  It’s quite complex to pinpoint a particular factor leading to a decline in ovarian reserve, however, this could be due to delayed parenthood, sedentary lifestyle, regular consumption of junk food, poor sleeping patterns, hormonal imbalance, and even environmental factors like severe pollution. Dr Malik also highlighted the importance of regularly checking hormonal levels especially AMH, the fertility hormone, saying,Women post 25 years must get their hormones checked, especially fertility hormone AMH(Anti-Mullerian) which determines your ovarian reserve.  Although there are no specific symptoms for low ovarian reserve, one must watch out for irregular periods and shorter menstrual cycles. For those women wishing to delay their parenthood, egg freezing is also catching up, especially among single women”.

During the fertility conference, doctors discussed themes such as egg freezing and when can women opt for it, ovarian rejuvenation therapy, success rates in ART, advancements in an IVF Lab (Embryology) to improve success rates, and Male Infertility among others.
Dr Sandeep Talwar, Fertility Specialist at Nova IVF Fertility, Vasant Vihar   emphasized the advancements in reproductive technology that could address poor ovarian reserve. “Advancements in reproductive medicine, such as Ovarian PRP rejuvenation could be effective in addressing low ovarian reserve. Ovarian rejuvenation involves stimulating the ovaries to produce more eggs, PRP therapy uses the patient’s platelets to enhance ovarian function, and stem cell treatment aims to regenerate ovarian tissue, improving egg production. This could particularly help younger women who are suffering from low ovarian reserve.”
The success of IVF for women with low ovarian reserve can vary. While some women with low ovarian reserve may achieve successful pregnancies through IVF, others may require multiple cycles or additional treatments. Dr Rohit Gutgutia, Medical Director, at Nova IVF Fertility, added, “It is a common misconception that IVF guarantees a 100% success rate, but that is not the reality. Success rates can be dependent on multiple factors like the age of the woman, egg quality, predisposed medical conditions, and IVF lab, among others. Understanding these factors is crucial for setting realistic expectations and ensuring a well-informed journey through fertility treatment.”
Obstetricians, gynaecologists, and fertility experts attended the conference.  Dr Vandana Bagga, Director, Directorate of Family Welfare, graced the event as the Chief Guest. The Guests of Honour included Dr Arun Gupta – President, Delhi Medical Council, Dr Girish Tyagi– Registrar, Delhi Medical Council, and Dr Ashok Kumar – president, AOGD (Association of Obstetricians & Gynaecologists of Delhi).
