New Delhi, September 15, 2025 – In a landmark move to position India at the forefront of frontier technologies, NITI Aayog today unveiled two transformative initiatives under its Frontier Tech Hub—the AI for Viksit Bharat Roadmap: Opportunity for Accelerated Economic Growth and the NITI Frontier Tech Repository.

The initiatives were launched in New Delhi by Union Finance and Corporate Affairs Minister Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman and Union Minister for Railways, Information & Broadcasting, and Electronics & Information Technology Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, in the presence of NITI Aayog Vice Chairperson Shri Suman Bery, CEO Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam, and senior officials from the Government of India.

India’s AI-Driven Future

Highlighting the importance of rapid adoption of emerging technologies, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman emphasized that AI-enabled solutions must reach every district to drive equitable development. She likened the Frontier Tech Hub to a “honeycomb”, fostering collaboration between government, industry, and innovators to convert ideas into large-scale impact.

Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw added that AI is set to fundamentally transform the way people work and live, while instilling in India’s youth the confidence to aspire for a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

What the Roadmap Offers

The AI for Viksit Bharat Roadmap lays out a concrete action plan with two key priorities:

  1. Accelerating AI adoption across industries to boost productivity and efficiency.
  2. Driving innovation with generative AI to propel India into global leadership in R&D and advanced technologies.

Frontier Tech Repository: 200+ Impact Stories

Complementing the roadmap, the Frontier Tech Repository showcases over 200 success stories across Agriculture, Healthcare, Education, and National Security. It highlights how states and startups are harnessing cutting-edge technologies to transform livelihoods.

New Initiatives for Grassroots Adoption

NITI Aayog CEO Shri B.V.R. Subrahmanyam announced two new initiatives to strengthen grassroots technology deployment:

Frontier 50 Initiative: Supporting 50 Aspirational Districts/Blocks in scaling frontier technology use cases from the repository.

NITI Frontier Tech Impact Awards: Recognizing states leading in tech adoption for governance, education, healthcare, and livelihoods.

He underlined that achieving India’s 8% growth target will require a “seismic shift” in productivity and innovation—AI being the key catalyst.

Building for the Future

Ms. Debjani Ghosh, Distinguished Fellow at NITI Aayog and Chief Architect of the Frontier Tech Hub, noted that the next wave of technological shifts will be even more disruptive than AI, and stressed the need for early anticipation, resilient supply chains, global standards, and strong alliances.

The launch event brought together startup founders, district magistrates, innovators, and industry leaders—showcasing real-world examples of frontier tech adoption at the grassroots.
