Marengo Asia Hospitals Becomes First Indian Hospital Group to Enter Saudi Arabia with 2,000-Bed Capacity

Marengo Asia Hospitals has announced a landmark expansion, becoming the first Indian hospital group to establish a private hospital facility in Saudi Arabia. With this development, the hospital chain has crossed the 2,000-bed milestone globally as it accelerates both domestic growth and international forays.

The Saudi hospital is located in Najran (Nazran) and is currently a 120-bed facility, which is expected to double in capacity in the coming year, positioning it among the largest private hospitals in the region.

On the domestic front, Marengo recently added a 300-bed facility in Varanasi, further contributing to its growing network.

Dr. Raajiv Singhal, Founding Member, Managing Director and Group CEO of Marengo Asia Hospitals, said the move into Saudi Arabia reflects the group’s international ambitions and its strategy of combining clinical excellence with technology, super-specialty services, and a focus on patient-centric care. He described Saudi Arabia as “untapped with huge opportunities,” noting that the partnership model allows room to build centres of excellence and attract global medical talent.

The Saudi facility will focus on specialties such as cardiac sciences, neurology, oncology, and joint replacements—fields aligned with the non-communicable disease burden in the region. Marengo plans to build a “medical value travel corridor” that facilitates skills exchange: Indian consultants will work in Saudi Arabia, while Saudi clinicians will be trained in India. Complex cases needing advanced infrastructure may be referred to its Indian hospitals.

Advancing technological capabilities is also part of the vision: the Saudi facility will introduce robotics for surgeries, biosensors for early patient alerts, non-invasive glucose monitoring, and digital tools such as self-registration systems via QR codes.

On staffing, the hospital expects to recruit 25-30 super-specialist consultants and over 100 nurses, many from India, to lead key clinical care units.

Marengo Asia Hospitals currently operates a network of hospitals in India (in Delhi NCR, Gujarat etc.), and has plans to grow further. Domestically, it intends to double bed capacity over the next year-plus through organic growth and strategic acquisitions.
