Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare, Shri Jagat Prakash Nadda, today led a focused interaction with Members of Parliament (MPs) from Madhya Pradesh to reinforce and accelerate the national campaign TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. The engagement forms part of a series of state wise consultations with parliamentarians aimed at accelerating India’s mission to eliminate tuberculosis (TB) by empowering elected representatives to champion the cause at the constituency level.
Held under the theme “Parliamentarians Championing a TB-Mukt Bharat” at Madhya Pradesh Bhawan in New Delhi, the session emphasised the vital role of MPs in driving community mobilisation, strengthening cross-party collaboration and ensuring implementation of targeted TB elimination strategies across grassroots settings. The event was attended by key leaders including Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, Union Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare Smt. Anupriya Patel, and Union Minister of State for Tribal Affairs Shri Durgadas Uikey.
Addressing the gathering, Shri Nadda highlighted India’s significant progress in combating tuberculosis, citing the WHO Global TB Report 2025 which showed a 21 % reduction in TB incidence between 2015 and 2024, nearly twice the global average, along with a 25 % reduction in TB-related mortality. India has also achieved a 90 % treatment success rate, surpassing global benchmarks outcomes he attributed to sustained political leadership, robust programme implementation and strong public participation under the national TB elimination drive.
Reiterating that Jan Andolan remains the cornerstone of India’s TB elimination strategy, Shri Nadda urged MPs to continue mobilising communities, elevating awareness and ensuring comprehensive psychosocial support for TB patients and their families within their constituencies.
Union Minister of State for Health, Smt. Anupriya Patel, commended Madhya Pradesh’s proactive approach, particularly its intensified community based screening efforts, including in tribal and hard-to-reach areas. She also noted that enhanced TB notifications reflect stronger programme outreach and increased engagement with the private healthcare sector. The scale-up of advanced diagnostic technologies such as *AI-enabled chest X-rays, mobile diagnostic vansand widespread deployment of NAAT machines, along with an increased *₹1,000 monthly nutritional support for TB patients under the Ni-kshay Poshan Yojana, were highlighted as key enablers of improved treatment outcomes.
Smt. Aradhana Patnaik, Additional Secretary and Mission Director of the National Health Mission, outlined India’s patient centric TB elimination framework, noting a nationwide network of more than 9,300 NAAT diagnostic machines ensuring critical access across all blocks. She also shared detailed performance indicators for Madhya Pradesh, including progress in screening vulnerable populations, case notifications, treatment success rates and nutritional support coverage.
Parliamentarians from Madhya Pradesh reaffirmed their commitment to intensify efforts under the TB
Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, pledging to promote Ni-kshay Shivirs for early detection, ensure seamless functioning of *district-level TB services, and actively engage Ni-kshay Mitras, MYBharat volunteers and Panchayati Raj Institutions to provide holistic support to TB patients. They also committed to prioritising TB agendas in DISHA meetings, visiting health facilities and directly engaging with patients to address real world challenges.
Launched in December 2024 and expanded nationwide, the TB-Mukt Bharat Abhiyan aims to ensure early detection, timely initiation of treatment, tailored care for high-risk individuals and comprehensive psychosocial support guided by community engagement and strong political stewardship.
