Health authorities in Telangana have confirmed that a second Sudanese national admitted to a Hyderabad hospital has tested negative for Ebola, providing reassurance amid heightened surveillance following global concerns over recent Ebola outbreaks in parts of Africa.
Officials stated that the individual was admitted as a precautionary measure after arriving from an Ebola affected region and undergoing medical evaluation. Laboratory test results subsequently ruled out Ebola Virus Disease, and health authorities emphasized that there are currently no confirmed Ebola cases in Telangana.
As part of its preparedness strategy, the Telangana government has established a special 10-bed isolation ward at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad to manage any suspected Ebola cases that may arise. The dedicated facility has been equipped to support patient isolation, clinical monitoring, infection control, and emergency response protocols in line with national and international public health guidelines.
The precautionary measures come as health agencies worldwide remain on alert following Ebola outbreaks reported in parts of Africa. The World Health Organization (WHO) classifies Ebola as a severe viral disease that can cause fever, weakness, vomiting, diarrhoea, and, in severe cases, internal and external bleeding. Historical outbreaks have recorded case fatality rates ranging from 25% to 90%, depending on the outbreak setting and access to healthcare.
Health officials in Telangana have intensified surveillance efforts at airports, healthcare facilities, and public health monitoring centres. Travellers arriving from affected countries are being screened and monitored according to established protocols to ensure early detection and rapid response if required.
Public health experts note that preparedness measures such as isolation facilities, surveillance systems, contact tracing capabilities, and trained healthcare personnel are critical components of outbreak prevention and control. The establishment of the dedicated ward at Gandhi Hospital reflects the state’s proactive approach to safeguarding public health.
Authorities have urged citizens not to panic and to rely only on official updates from health departments and government agencies. They emphasized that precautionary monitoring and testing are standard public health measures and do not indicate the presence of an active outbreak.
With both suspected cases testing negative, Telangana health officials continue to maintain a high level of preparedness while monitoring the evolving global situation. The state remains committed to ensuring rapid response capabilities and protecting residents from potential infectious disease threats.
