AIIMS Delhi Launches First-of-Its-Kind Retina Training Programme

AIIMS Delhi has launched a Modulated Retina Training Programme at the newly established National Retina Skill Development Centre, a first-of-its-kind facility aimed at addressing the shortage of trained professionals in retinal healthcare. The programme will provide ophthalmologists with structured, hands-on training in the diagnosis and management of retinal diseases.

The programme is designed to offer customised, competency-based training rather than relying only on conventional classroom learning. Participants will receive structured exposure to retinal disease evaluation and management, helping strengthen clinical and practical skills in a highly specialised area of ophthalmology.

Building on Existing Ophthalmology Training Infrastructure

AIIMS Delhi‘s Dr. Rajendra Prasad Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences already conducts postgraduate and post-doctoral training across multiple ophthalmology specialties, including retina, while its wider skill-development infrastructure supports simulation-based and hands-on clinical learning.

The new initiative comes amid the growing need for specialised retinal care and trained ophthalmologists capable of managing complex retinal disorders. By creating a dedicated platform for practical training, the programme is expected to help expand specialist capacity and support improved access to advanced retinal diagnosis and treatment.

Strengthening India’s Retina-Care Workforce

The Modulated Retina Training Programme and the National Retina Skill Development Centre represent a focused step by AIIMS Delhi towards strengthening India’s retina-care workforce through structured, hands-on, and specialised medical training.
