India’s healthcare industry witnessed a significant rise in private equity and venture capital activity during the third quarter of 2026, with investments reaching $3.1 billion. The sharp increase reflects growing investor interest in the country’s healthcare market, according to the latest EY-IVCA monthly PE/VC roundup.
Healthcare PE/VC investment in India increased by 621% compared with the corresponding quarter last year and rose 878% over the previous quarter. With this performance, healthcare emerged as the second-largest sector in terms of investment value during Q3 2026.
The latest figures indicate a stronger investment environment for healthcare businesses, with large acquisitions and continued deal activity contributing to the sector’s performance.
Healthcare Investment Activity Gains Momentum in Q3 2026
India’s healthcare sector recorded 28 private equity and venture capital transactions during July-September 2026, compared with 19 deals in the preceding quarter.
Monthly investment activity also showed an upward trend throughout the quarter. September registered 11 transactions, while August recorded eight and July reported six deals.
The increase in transaction activity highlights sustained investor participation across India’s healthcare investment landscape. September alone attracted $1.1 billion in PE/VC funding, representing a 465% year-on-year increase.
The combination of higher investment value and increased deal activity positioned healthcare among the leading sectors attracting private capital during the quarter.
KKR’s $1.4 Billion Medicover India Acquisition Leads Major Deals
One of the most significant transactions during Q3 2026 was KKR’s $1.4 billion acquisition of Medicover India.
According to the EY-IVCA roundup, the transaction was the largest private equity and venture capital deal across all sectors during the quarter.
The acquisition represented a major development in India’s healthcare investment market, highlighting the scale of institutional capital being deployed in the country’s healthcare businesses.
Large transactions of this nature also demonstrate the importance of established healthcare platforms in attracting investment from global private equity firms.
Healthcare Sector Records Strong PE/VC-Backed IPO Exit Value
Apart from investment inflows, India’s healthcare sector also reported notable activity in private equity-backed IPO exits.
Since 2021, healthcare ranked fifth in terms of the number of PE/VC-backed IPO exits. However, its performance in exit value was considerably stronger during Q3 2026.
The sector generated $1.4 billion in PE/VC-backed IPO exit value during the quarter, ranking third among sectors by this measure.
This performance highlights the role of public market listings in providing exit opportunities for private equity and venture capital investors in healthcare businesses.
What the Q3 2026 Investment Figures Indicate for India’s Healthcare Industry
The latest investment figures underline the growing importance of healthcare within India’s private capital market.
The rise in funding from the previous quarter, alongside the increase in transaction numbers, points to stronger investment activity during the July-September period.
The $1.4 billion Medicover India transaction also demonstrates the scale of large-ticket acquisitions taking place in the healthcare industry.
For healthcare companies, investors and industry stakeholders, these developments provide an important indication of the capital flowing into the sector.
As investment activity continues to evolve, the performance of healthcare businesses in private equity transactions and public market exits will remain an important area to watch.
