India’s public health assurance and digital health infrastructure have reached major milestones, with AB PM-JAY crossing 60 crore beneficiaries and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) reaching 97.8 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHAs). The latest progress was highlighted at Aarogya Manthan 2026, organised by the National Health Authority (NHA).

Over the past eight years, Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) has facilitated more than 13 crore hospital admissions, with treatment worth over ₹2 lakh crore. The scheme provides health cover of up to ₹5 lakh per family per year for secondary and tertiary hospitalisation and is currently implemented across all 36 States and Union Territories.

AB PM-JAY was expanded in October 2024 to cover all citizens aged 70 years and above, irrespective of their socio-economic status. The expansion brought around 6 crore senior citizens under the scheme, further increasing the reach of government-backed health coverage.

On the digital health front, ABDM has crossed 97.8 crore ABHAs, while more than 121 crore health records have been linked to the digital ecosystem. The mission has also registered over 5.6 lakh healthcare facilities and around 11 lakh healthcare professionals, strengthening digital connectivity across India’s healthcare system.

The ABDM Scan and Register service has crossed 25 crore outpatient registrations and is now operational across approximately 30,800 healthcare facilities in all 36 States and Union Territories. Nearly 4 lakh patients use the service every day, highlighting the growing adoption of digital registration services.

Aarogya Manthan 2026 is also highlighting new initiatives focused on strengthening India’s health assurance and digital healthcare ecosystem. These include the National Healthcare Providers Registry Mobile App, NHCX Implementation Guide for Payers, Secure Data Environment application and a framework for auto-adjudication of AB PM-JAY claims.

Together, these developments reflect the expanding scale of India’s government-backed health coverage and digital health infrastructure, with a growing focus on improving healthcare access, interoperability, claims processing and the use of health data.
