The All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Jammu (AIIMS Jammu), has marked a landmark milestone by treating more than 2.6 lakh patients in its Outpatient Departments during the first year since services commenced on August 1, 2024. This achievement underscores the institution’s critical role as a regional healthcare anchor.
Clinical Impact: Caring for Thousands in Just 12 Months
Speaking to the press, Dr. Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director and CEO of AIIMS Jammu, shared:
“In this short span, our commitment has translated into tangible impact. We have treated over 2.6 lakh patients in our outpatient departments, admitted nearly 4,000 inpatients, and managed more than 15,000 emergency cases with dedication and efficiency.”
The institute has also conducted more than 1,800 surgeries across eight advanced modular operation theatres, reflecting rapid scale-up of critical services.
Diagnostics & Innovation: Robust Infrastructure in Action
AIIMS Jammu has brought advanced diagnostics closer to home with more than 30,000 X-rays, 20,000 ultrasounds, over 7,000 CT scans, and 2,300 MRI sessions performed in its inaugural year. Additionally, the transplant and genomics units—such as its Transfusion Medicine laboratory and Centre for Advanced Genomics & Precision Medicine—are establishing the institution’s reputation as a healthcare innovation hub.
Building a Symbol of Hope and Equity
Dr. Gupta noted that AIIMS Jammu is more than a hospital—it stands as a “beacon of hope, knowledge, and compassionate care for generations to come.” The institute’s swift completion of 43 buildings in just three and a half years, despite pandemic delays, reinforces its strong vision to bridge specialty healthcare gaps in Jammu & Kashmir and beyond.
Scaling Capacity and Quality Healthcare
AIIMS Jammu is on an accelerated growth trajectory:
- Plans to expand inpatient capacity to 250 beds within a month, and up to 750 beds by mid-2025, enabling management of up to 2,500 OPD cases per day.
- Recent statements by Dr. Gupta reaffirm the vision of transforming the institute into a regional referral and precision medicine center, serving communities across J&K, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and Ladakh.
Why This Matters
- Access & Equity: AIIMS Jammu’s clinical volumes illustrate how critical tertiary care must be embedded locally to reduce patient travel and costs.
- Speedy Inception: Building and operationalizing a multispecialty AIIMS in record time underlines the power of policy leadership and institutional commitment.
- Innovation Focus: From advanced diagnostics to cell biology and genomics, AIIMS Jammu is evolving beyond traditional care into research-driven medicine—serving as a model for regional healthcare ecosystems.
