Ankura Hospital For Women And Children joined healthcare institutions across the country in celebrating World NRP Day by conducting a basic Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) workshop aimed at improving newborn survival and strengthening emergency care during childbirth. The initiative was part of a large nationwide movement led by the National Neonatology Forum (NNF) India to train healthcare providers in essential newborn resuscitation skills.

The large-scale campaign is being conducted simultaneously across India with the vision of ensuring that every newborn receives timely and effective care immediately after birth. Nearly 998 training programs involving close to 20,000 healthcare professionals are being held as part of this coordinated effort, making it one of the country’s largest neonatal healthcare training initiatives. The campaign is being led under the leadership of Dr. Lallan Kumar Bharti with a focus on reducing preventable newborn deaths through timely intervention and skilled neonatal care.

At Ankura Hospital, the workshop focused on equipping doctors, nurses, and healthcare workers with practical and evidence-based neonatal resuscitation techniques required to help newborns breathe effectively at birth. Dr. Siddharth Madabhushi, Medical Director, and Dr. Anusha Rao, Neonatologist, are national trainers for NRP. The training highlighted that the first few minutes after delivery are extremely critical for a baby’s survival, and immediate intervention by trained professionals can often make the difference between life and death.

The program included practical demonstrations, hands-on simulation-based learning, and emergency response training sessions for healthcare teams involved in maternal and newborn care. The workshop also emphasized the importance of continuous skill development, preparedness, and teamwork in improving neonatal outcomes and ensuring safer beginnings for newborns.

Speaking about the initiative, Dr. Siddharth Madabhushi, Medical Director, Ankura Hospital for Women & Children,  who led the training session, said,* “The first few minutes after a baby’s birth are among the most crucial moments in medicine. Many newborn deaths can be prevented with timely and evidence-based care, and these trainings help ensure that even the most vulnerable babies receive immediate support when they need it most.”

The hospital stated that initiatives like NRP Day are important in spreading awareness about neonatal resuscitation and strengthening newborn care services across both urban and rural regions. By training more healthcare professionals in life-saving newborn care practices, the initiative aims to support healthier beginnings and improve neonatal survival outcomes across India.
