The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached immovable assets worth ₹158.37 crore in connection with its ongoing money laundering investigation into Rockland Hospitals Limited and its promoters under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002. The action follows an investigation into alleged financial irregularities and diversion of company funds.

According to the ED, the investigation was initiated based on a January 31, 2020 complaint filed by the Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) before the Special Court under the Companies Act in Dwarka, New Delhi. The agency alleged that the promoters siphoned off company funds through fake implant invoices worth ₹76.03 crore and inflated construction expenses amounting to ₹82.34 crore, with the proceeds allegedly routed through shell companies before being brought back as share capital. The total proceeds of crime have been quantified at ₹158.37 crore.

The ED stated that the attachment forms part of its efforts to secure assets linked to the alleged money laundering offence while the investigation continues. The action is provisional and subject to confirmation by the Adjudicating Authority under the PMLA.

The case highlights increasing regulatory scrutiny of corporate governance and financial practices in India’s healthcare sector. Experts note that robust compliance mechanisms, transparent financial reporting and stronger internal controls are essential for safeguarding investor confidence and ensuring accountability in healthcare institutions.

The investigation remains ongoing, and the ED is expected to continue examining the financial transactions and alleged fund diversion linked to the case.
