New Delhi | March 2026 The Delhi Government has allocated over 12.5% of its total budget amounting to ₹13,034 crore to the healthcare sector for FY 2026–27, marking a 1% increase from the previous fiscal year, underscoring its continued focus on strengthening public health services in the national capital.
The increased allocation is aimed at enhancing healthcare infrastructure, improving service delivery, and expanding access to quality care, particularly at the primary and secondary levels. Investments are expected across hospitals, diagnostics, and workforce capacity, in line with the government’s commitment to building a more robust healthcare system.

In a significant step toward advancing preventive and neonatal healthcare, the government has also launched the Advanced Newborn Monitoring for Optimal Lifecare (ANMOL) scheme, with an allocation of ₹25 crore. The initiative will provide free genetic testing for newborns, enabling early detection of congenital and hereditary conditions.

The ANMOL scheme is expected to play a crucial role in reducing infant morbidity and mortality, allowing for timely medical intervention and improved long-term health outcomes. Experts note that early genetic screening can significantly enhance disease management and reduce the burden of lifelong health complications.
Officials highlighted that the dual focus on increased healthcare spending and targeted preventive initiatives reflects a strategic approach to addressing both immediate and long-term healthcare needs of Delhi’s population.

Healthcare analysts have welcomed the move, stating that sustained budgetary support combined with innovative programmes like ANMOL could position Delhi as a leader in urban public health delivery.

The announcements reinforce the government’s vision of delivering accessible, affordable, and technology-driven healthcare services, with a growing emphasis on early diagnosis and preventive care.
