Empowering India’s Para-Athletes: AMTZ Hosts 1st National Wheelchair Handball Championship in Vizag

Visakhapatnam, 15 April 2026: Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) inaugurated its 1st National Wheelchair Handball Championship at its IEC Campus from April 15th till 19th. The event marks an important step in advancing inclusive sports initiatives in India.
The championship has brought together around more than 70 players and officials from six states, reflecting growing participation and interest in adaptive sports. Organized in collaboration with the Handball Federation of India, the event aims to create a structured national platform for para-athletes to compete, collaborate, and gain visibility.
The event was also attended by Dev Lulla, Educationist Mentor, Lulla School of Excellence and Sapna Lulla, Senior Educator & Counsellor along with Amit Sharma, Head of Artificial Limb Centre ( ALC ), in the presence of Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD and Founder CEO AMTZ and Capt Louise George, Director – Para Sports Academy, AMTZ. Over the course of the tournament, teams will be competing in a spirit of determination and sportsmanship, showcasing both skill and resilience. The championship also serves as an opportunity to highlight the importance of accessibility and the role of sports in enabling greater inclusion.
Inaugurating the event, Dr. Jitendra Sharma, MD and Founder CEO, AMTZ stated that the championship is not just about competition, but a platform to identify and build India’s future national team.
He further added, “As the upcoming international championship in Cairo approaches, we encourage every participant to play with purpose – not just for the tournament, but with the vision of bringing a medal for India. AMTZ will stand behind the selected national team with full support, ensuring that talent and determination are never limited by resources.”
Highlighting the importance of the occasion, Capt Louise George, Director – Para Sports Academy, AMTZ said “Through this championship, we are not only hosting a tournament but building a pathway for opportunity, growth, and national representation.
