Walking together has the incredible ability to positively impact individuals and communities. The initiative ‘Walk With A Doc’ (WWAD) was initiated to promote physical activity, combat the negative effects of a sedentary lifestyle, and prevent various health issues in the communities. Regardless of age or fitness level, the simple act of walking has the potential to bring about significant changes in people’s lives. Walking is truly a powerful form of medicine, and the goal is to make it safe, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone in the community. On every first Sunday of the month, WWAD hosts a 45-minute session where different specialists highlight health topics and engage in interactive and outdoor walking sessions with participants along with enjoying healthy snacks. WWAD is a great way to educate, exercise, and empower, and strengthen the bond between doctors and patients.

“In the country, there is a noticeable gap or disconnection between patients and doctors, stemming from the formal environment of hospitals and clinics that hinders the establishment of friendly relationships Regardless of age or physical ability, the simple act of walking has the potential to bring about life-changing results. Through WWAD, people unite with a shared objective of embracing healthier habits while enjoying nature’s beauty. WWAD offers nutritious snacks, access to health experts for inquiries and discussions on wellness topics, as well as opportunities to forge new friendships in an inviting atmosphere,” said Dr. Shirish M Hastak, Regional Director, Neurology, Stroke & Neurocritical Care, Gleneagles Hospitals, Parel, Mumbai.

The upcoming session in April at Mahalaxmi race course begins at 7 am will focus on arthritis, with a rheumatologist guiding around 60 participants through this topic. During these sessions, experts provide valuable community education on various health topics such as headaches, stroke, heart attack, pain, arthritis, kidney transplants, fatty liver disease etc. Each talk lasts for 20 minutes followed by a 10-minute Q&A session where participants can ask questions and get expert answers. After that, the doctor leads a 30-minute walk with the participants.

“WWAD is breaking down the barriers to healthy living and making it a routine part of one’s daily life. The hospital recognizes the power of initiatives like WWAD in promoting community health. By encouraging people to prioritize their well-being, we can create a culture where healthy living is not just a trend, but a lifestyle choice. As we look towards the future, let us continue to embrace concepts like WWAD and make positive choices for health for a brighter tomorrow said Mr Anoop Lawrence, COO, Gleneagles Hospital Mumbai
