India Medical Association (IMA) has decided to intensify its stand against the Ayush Ministry’s policy ‘Mixopathy’. IMA organized an Action Committee meeting including National President IMA, Dr. J A Jyalal, Former National President, Dr. Rajan Sharma, Honorary Secretary-General, Dr. Jayesh M Lele, Honorary Finance Secretary, Dr. Anil Goyal, where they have decided to give an ultimatum to the Centre till April 7th to withdraw the notification.

By giving due respect to Ayurveda and all other systems of Indian Medicine, the association has pointed that Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM) has been diluting the purity, ethicality, safety, and quality of the Indian healthcare system.

As per a gazette notification issued by the Central Council of Indian Medicine (CCIM), a statutory body under the AYUSH Ministry, allowed postgraduate degree holders of Ayurveda to perform a variety of procedures including general surgery, orthopaedic, ophthalmology, ENT, and dental procedures and surgeries, they listed 39 general surgery procedures and 19 other procedures.

The doctors around the country have raised strong objection against the policy, and they believe that every variant of medicine has its own identity, and mixing various streams of medical science can be hazardous to the Indian healthcare system and a threat to human life.

IMA has also started an awareness movement for the people of the country. They believe that it’s high to raise. A single doctor practicing all the systems together is adulteration and also a burden for the student who has to study every principle of different systems.

IMA also organised a panel discussion on the topic with various experts from different fields sharing their knowledge of expertise on the same. Well-known experts from the medical fraternity gave their point of view on ‘Mixopathy’.

IMA has also raised its concern regarding the launch of CORONIL by Baba Ramdev, founder of Patanjali Ayurved Limited, the organisation claims that the so-called evidence-based medicine can be used for the prevention, treatment as well as post-COVID phase treatment.

Minister of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Harsh Vardhan, was also present at the launch of the medicine. During the launch, it was claimed that the ayurvedic medicine CORONIL has got DCGI approval and WHO certification.
But later, WHO clarified in a tweet that it has not reviewed or certified the effectiveness of any traditional medicine for the treatment of COVID-19. The presence of the Health Minister during the launch was an unexpected move. IMA will also write to the National Medical Commission for seeking Suo moto explanation for his actions.
