India is rapidly emerging as a global centre for artificial intelligence (AI)-driven healthcare innovation, with more than 85% of Philips’ AI healthcare innovations now being developed in the country. The development underscores India’s growing role in advancing digital health technologies aimed at improving diagnostics, clinical decision making and patient care.
According to Philips, the company is significantly expanding its AI capabilities in India, leveraging the country’s strong engineering talent and healthcare technology ecosystem to develop next generation solutions for global markets. The AI innovations are focused on enhancing diagnostic accuracy, improving clinical workflows and enabling healthcare providers to deliver quality care more efficiently.
The company believes artificial intelligence can play a transformative role in addressing some of India’s biggest healthcare challenges, including the shortage of healthcare professionals, rising patient volumes and unequal access to advanced diagnostics. AI-powered technologies are increasingly being integrated into radiology, pathology, critical care, remote patient monitoring and image guided interventions to support faster and more accurate clinical decisions.
India has emerged as a preferred destination for healthcare technology research and development, supported by a robust digital ecosystem, a skilled workforce and government initiatives such as the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The country’s digital health infrastructure has crossed 93 crore ABHA accounts and 104 crore linked health records, creating a strong foundation for AI-enabled healthcare solutions.
Industry estimates suggest the global AI in healthcare market is expected to exceed USD 180 billion by 2030, driven by growing adoption of predictive analytics, medical imaging, precision medicine and clinical decision support systems. Experts believe India’s expanding innovation ecosystem positions it to play a pivotal role in developing affordable and scalable AI solutions for both domestic and international healthcare markets.
Healthcare experts note that AI is expected to complement, rather than replace, clinicians by reducing administrative burden, enabling early disease detection and improving treatment planning. They also emphasize the need for responsible AI deployment supported by robust data governance, regulatory oversight and clinical validation.
India’s growing contribution to global AI healthcare innovation reflects the country’s transition from being a technology services hub to becoming a key centre for healthcare research, product development and digital innovation, strengthening its position in the rapidly evolving global health technology landscape.
