India’s Pharma Exports Grow 6.80% to USD 8.10 Billion in Q1 FY27
India’s pharmaceutical exports grew 6.80% to USD 8.10 billion during April–June FY2026-27, compared with USD 7.58 billion in the corresponding period of the previous financial year, according to data released by the Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil). The growth reflects continued global demand for Indian pharmaceutical products and the country’s expanding position in international healthcare markets.
June Exports Show Sustained Momentum
Export momentum strengthened in June FY27, with pharmaceutical shipments rising 7.13% to USD 2.81 billion, compared with USD 2.62 billion in June FY26. June exports were also 6.86% higher than the USD 2.63 billion recorded in May FY27, indicating sustained export momentum during the first quarter.
Category-Wise Performance: Formulations Lead, Vaccines Surge
Drug formulations and biologicals remained the largest export category, generating USD 5.98 billion and accounting for 73.85% of total pharmaceutical exports. The segment grew 4.14% year-on-year.
Other key category highlights:
- Bulk drugs and drug intermediates — grew 13.84% to USD 1.36 billion
- Vaccine exports — fastest-growing category, up 35.68% to USD 0.39 billion
- Surgical products — grew 11.95% to USD 0.21 billion
Key Export Markets: NAFTA and US Lead the Way
Regionally, NAFTA, Europe, Africa, and Latin America & the Caribbean (LAC) remained India’s key pharmaceutical export destinations, collectively accounting for nearly 75% of total exports. NAFTA alone contributed 34.28% of India’s pharmaceutical exports, retaining its position as the largest regional market.
The United States remained India’s largest country-level export destination during the quarter, followed by:
- Brazil
- United Kingdom
- Netherlands
- France
India’s top 25 export destinations accounted for nearly 70% of total pharmaceutical exports, with shipments valued at USD 5.65 billion, representing 5.50% year-on-year growth.
Outlook: Diversified Base Supports Continued Growth
The broad-based performance across formulations, vaccines, bulk drugs, and surgical products highlights India’s diversified pharmaceutical export base. Continued investments in advanced manufacturing, regulatory compliance, product diversification, and market expansion will remain important for sustaining India’s global pharmaceutical export growth.
