Medicover Hospitals, Kharghar Hosts 10 Km Cyclothon To Spread Awareness On World Kidney Day

Kidney disease poses a serious threat, often going unnoticed as it silently wreaks havoc on health. Raising awareness about kidney health is crucial to improving the quality of life of people who are undergoing dialysis due to kidney failure or are in dire need of transplantation. To mark World Kidney Day and prevent kidney diseases, Medicover Hospitals, Kharghar organized a 10 km cyclotron wherein over 100 cyclists participated and cycled from Medicover Hospital-Central Park- Medicover Hospital. Dr Mataprasad B Gupta, Centre Head at Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai, and Mr Saiprasad Shelke Founder, Pedals4Cause Foundation flagged off the event.

The increasing incidence of kidney problems in people across all age groups is a growing cause for concern in the country. While traditionally seen as an issue affecting older adults, there is a concerning surge in kidney-related issues among youngsters too. Factors such as poor dietary choices, hypertension, diabetes, sedentary lifestyles, and rising obesity rates are contributing to this alarming trend. As a result, experts are emphasizing the importance of early detection and prevention strategies to mitigate the impact of kidney problems on overall health and quality of life. This shift highlights the need for increased awareness campaigns and education initiatives targeting people of all ages to promote kidney health and well-being. Hence, Medicover Hospitals, Kharghar organized a unique cyclothon event to battle kidney disease.

Dr Vikas Bhise, Consultant Urologist and Transplant Surgeon, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai said, “Preventing kidney disease is crucial not just for individual health but also for the entire healthcare system. This silent epidemic often goes undetected until it reaches advanced stages, leading to dialysis and kidney transplants. Early detection through regular screenings and adopting a healthy lifestyle can significantly reduce the burden on healthcare resources while improving quality of life.  Kidney disease is closely linked with other chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and heart disease. By addressing risk factors like obesity, smoking, and alcohol, individuals can not only protect their kidneys but also reduce the likelihood of developing these interconnected health issues. This cyclotron motivated people to prioritize their kidney health and enhance their overall well-being. We even give the participants some vital tips regarding kidney health along with a physiotherapy session and participation certificate. The event concluded with everyone pledging to take utmost care of their kidneys and lead a healthy life.”

Dr Mataprasad B.Gupta said, “ The kidney cyclothon is a movement towards a healthier future for all. Through this event, we hope to inspire others to take proactive steps in maintaining their kidney health and to raise awareness about the prevalence of kidney diseases. As the wheels turn and the energy surges through each participant, there is a tangible sense of unity and purpose in the air. Every pedal stroke is a testament to our commitment to promoting overall well-being and preventing renal issues. This cyclothon serves as a reminder that taking care of our kidneys is not just an individual responsibility but also a collective effort to create a healthier society. Join us in this movement and let’s ride towards better kidney health together.”
