Mobile phone usage is increasing among people of all age groups. Smartphones have become an integral part of our day-to-day lives. A large number of people continue to ignore a plethora of health issues that arise due to Smartphone usage and suffer in silence. A new study, published ahead of World Hypertension Day, says that talking on a mobile phone for 30 minutes or more a week can be the reason behind high blood pressure. It is the need of the hour to discontinue long hours of chit-chatting on the phone and invest some valuable time to improve health. One can eat a nutritious diet with a minimal amount of salt, de-stress by doing yoga and meditation, exercise daily, and sleep well to bring down the numbers within the recommended range.

India is home to millions of people with high blood pressure which can further raise chances of heart attack and stroke, and premature death. Using mobile phones has been associated with headaches, stress, anxiety, inability to focus, and ear and eye problems. Now, according to new research published today in European Heart Journal – Digital Health, a journal of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC), there is a link between mobile phone usage and hypertension. “A low level of radiofrequency energy from mobile phones is known to induce hypertension. Also, many people arguing on the phone or discussing certain issues or topics can induce stress and thus raise one’s blood pressure. It is essential to keep a tab on your mobile phone usage. Use your phone below 30 minutes per day and you will surely notice the difference. You will be able to keep hypertension at bay and lead a healthy life. Apart from reducing phone usage, you will have to eat and sleep well, cut down on salt, smoking, and alcohol, and caffeine, exercise daily, and opt for relaxation techniques such as yoga and meditation to calm down.
