Paramedical Staff Steps Out To Perform A Street Play On Road Emergencies

~A initiative by Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai to raise awareness about road emergencies~

Following road safety and avoiding accidents is of utmost importance. Road accidents cause traumatic brain injuries, fractures, burns, leg amputations, and disability leading to loss of life. It is the need of the hour to create awareness regarding road safety. Paramedical staff from Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai has taken an innovative step to caution people by organizing a street play on how to ensure safety, giving first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training that can help people to be good Samaritans. All who participated in the play were Paramedical staff including Emergency Department staff and The event conducted at Three Monkey point Signal, Kharghar, Navi Mumbai.

Millions of people lose their lives in road accidents. Road safety is a major public health concern and a significant cause of morbidity and mortality across the country. It leads to a highest number of hospitalizations, disabilities, and deaths in India. Certain factors such as overspeeding, driving under the influence (DUI), failure to follow lane discipline, using mobile phones while driving, fatigue, rash driving, jumping red lights, and not wearing helmets and belts lead to fatal road accidents. We need to take road safety more seriously. In view of it, Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai has come forward to do its bit for the betterment of the society.

Dr. Abhijeet Sawant (Emergency department head) & Dr Burhan Salim (Ortho Trauma team), Medicover Hospital, Navi Mumbai said, “Road accidents are not only caused due to the driver’s carelessness but even the pedestrians’ ignorance. Carelessness, not sticking to the rules, crossing at the wrong places, and jaywalkers on the pedestrian’s part can also lead to accidents. Road accidents are life-altering as the accident victims’ drivers and passengers can suffer from minor cuts and bruises to broken limbs, whiplash, back, brain, knee, shoulder, elbow, and spinal injuries, paralysis, and even death. One can have emotional distress, shock, guilt, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, episodes of crying, loss of appetite, weight fluctuations, lack of energy, sexual dysfunction, mood swings, and sleep disturbances after the accidents, and can continue lifelong. So, we came up with the idea of doing a street play as it is a great way of educating people and spreading the message of saving lives. We gave first-aid, victim management before further treatment and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training to the people passing by Mumbai-Pune Highway.  We were elated to have received a positive response and continue to carry on with such more initiatives and campaigns in the future to keep people informed and safe.”

“We are happy to have joined hands with Medicover Hospitals, Navi Mumbai for this great initiative. We urge everyone to follow road safety and avoid accidents” said Senior Police Inspector Mulani.
