A new study claims eating plant-based foods is a heart-healthy option. And this is true for any age. Journal of American Heart Association published these findings after two separate studies. The American Heart Association diet and lifestyle recommendations highlights that a healthy diet should consist of l fruits, vegetables, skinless poultry, fish, nuts, legumes and non-tropicavegetable oils. Limited consumption of saturated fat, trans fats, sodium, red-meat, sweets and sugary drinks.
The study titled ‘A Plant Centred Diet and Risk of Incident Cardiovascular Disease During Young to Middle Adulthood’ assessed if a long-term plant-centred diet and a shift towards the same during young adulthood is linked to a lower incidence of cardio-vascular disease by midlife. A total of 2509 Black adults and 2437 White adults with 54.9 % women participated in this study. This study being observational, it couldn’t prove a cause-and-effect relationship between diet and heart-disease.
