An 8-year-old kid usually plays well. They regularly jump and hop. An 8-year-old girl had a knee injury while learning Martial Art in the school. Her parents, who belong to the KPHB colony in the city have taken her to several hospitals. Some doctors suggested surgery and some said there was no need for that. At last, the parents landed in KIMS Hospital, Kondapur. Consultant Arthroscopy, sports medicine specialist Dr. Prathap Parvataneni, who performed surgery on her explained the details thereof.

“The 8-year-old girl is very active. Due to the knee injury, she felt uncomfortable in walking and climbing steps. Their parents took her to the nearest doctor, who suggested an MRI. It showed that the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) was completely torn. The doctor suggested surgery. But, the parents went to several doctors for a second opinion. At last, they came to KIMS Hospital, Kondapur.

After testing, we identified the complete tear of the ACL in the knee and performed Arthroscopy. The physiotherapy team from KIMS Hospital has given a complete physiotherapy solution to her. So, now the baby is going back to school, climbing steps, and playing well too.

ACL tear is quite common. It happens in road accidents and sporting activities too. But it is very rare to happen at the age of 8 years. We see only one or two cases per year. This is the very first time KIMS Group performed arthroscopy on an 8-year-old baby. Moreover, some of the children, who don’t undergo physiotherapy well, may not recover completely. But, in this case, the baby has recovered completely. The child will be follow-up every year regarding for growth and physical activates” explained Dr. Prathap Parvataneni.

The parents of the girl said that it gives them great pleasure to see their daughter fully recovered and playing, and moving around again. They said that it is due to the surgery done here and the subsequent physiotherapy services provided, their daughter can get up again. They were of the view that it was important to go to the right doctors at the right time.
