Visakhapatnam, December 11–13: The Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ) successfully hosted the three-day World Health Innovation Forum from December 11 to 13, drawing strong participation from healthcare and MedTech leaders across Asia, Europe, and African countries, alongside senior stakeholders from across India.
The forum served as a high-level global platform to deliberate on the future of healthcare innovation, indigenous medical technology development, and research-led growth. A major highlight of the event was the establishment of the world’s first MedTech Global University at the AMTZ campus by Transasia Erba, marking a historic milestone in healthcare education and innovation.
Welcoming the delegates, Dr. Jitender Sharma, Managing Director of AMTZ, extended a warm welcome to dignitaries and delegates from across the world and expressed gratitude for their participation.
“We are honoured to welcome distinguished leaders, innovators, and policymakers from across the globe to AMTZ. I sincerely thank all the dignitaries for their presence and for contributing to meaningful discussions that will shape the future of global healthcare innovation,” Dr. Sharma said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Suresh Vazirani, Chairman of Transasia Erba and Chancellor of the University, stressed the importance of building a strong research ecosystem in India to reduce import dependence and create globally competitive medical technologies.
“India’s true strength will come from original research and innovation developed within the country. This university is envisioned as a centre for research, product development, and global-standard MedTech education,” Mr. Vazirani said.
Sharing the genesis of the university, Mr. Vazirani added that when he discussed the concept with Dr. Sharma, the idea progressed with remarkable speed.
“When I shared this vision with Dr. Jitender Sharma, within just four days he returned with a clear and executable plan for a MedTech Global University. That responsiveness reflects AMTZ’s commitment to innovation,” he noted.
Also speaking at the forum, Mr. Rajiv Nath, Forum Coordinator of AiMED (Association of Indian Medical Device Industry), highlighted the importance of a balanced and forward-looking regulatory framework for the medical device industry.
“A predictable, transparent, and innovation-friendly regulatory mechanism is essential for the growth of India’s medical device industry. Regulations must safeguard patient safety while enabling indigenous manufacturers and start-ups to innovate and compete globally,” Mr. Nath said.
The forum featured keynote addresses, panel discussions, and strategic sessions on Make in India for MedTech, research commercialization, regulatory pathways, and global market access, with active participation from international delegates.
AMTZ leadership reiterated their commitment to building a world-class ecosystem that integrates research, manufacturing, regulation, and innovation, positioning India as a future global hub for medical technology.
The successful conclusion of the World Health Innovation Forum underlined India’s expanding global role in healthcare innovation, with AMTZ emerging as a pivotal catalyst connecting India with international MedTech markets.
