New Delhi — The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has launched a nationwide Fire Safety Week from May 4 to May 10, 2026, aimed at strengthening safety protocols across healthcare facilities and raising awareness on fire prevention and emergency preparedness. The initiative underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring patient and staff safety, particularly in hospitals and high-risk healthcare environments.
The week-long campaign will include fire safety audits, mock drills, training sessions, and awareness programs across public and private healthcare institutions. Hospitals, medical colleges, and primary health centres have been directed to review existing fire safety systems, ensure compliance with safety norms, and enhance emergency response mechanisms.
A key focus of the initiative is to build capacity among healthcare workers by training them in fire prevention, evacuation procedures, and rapid response strategies. The campaign also aims to promote accountability and preparedness at all levels of healthcare delivery, ensuring that facilities are equipped to handle emergencies effectively.
The Ministry has emphasized the importance of regular maintenance of fire detection and suppression systems, clear evacuation pathways, and adherence to national safety standards. States and Union Territories have been urged to actively participate and monitor implementation to ensure uniform compliance across the country.
This nationwide observance comes amid increasing emphasis on safety and risk management in healthcare infrastructure. By prioritizing fire safety, the Ministry aims to create safer healthcare environments, minimize risks, and reinforce public confidence in India’s healthcare system.
