The Centre has appointed Piyush Singla as Director in the NHA under the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM), further strengthening leadership in India’s rapidly expanding digital healthcare ecosystem.
Dr. Singla is a 2012-batch IAS officer from the AGMUT cadre and was recommended for Central deputation by the Ministry of Home Affairs before being selected for the role. Officials say his appointment comes at an important time as India continues to accelerate implementation of digital healthcare infrastructure and interoperable health record systems nationwide.
The National Health Authority is the key implementing agency for flagship healthcare initiatives including Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY) and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission.
Under ABDM, the government aims to create an integrated digital health ecosystem connecting hospitals, patients, laboratories, doctors, pharmacies, and healthcare providers across the country.
According to official government data, more than 60 crore Ayushman Bharat Health Accounts (ABHA) have already been created, while over 100 crore digital health records have been linked through the platform. The digital mission is designed to improve healthcare accessibility, reduce paperwork, enable seamless sharing of patient records, and strengthen healthcare delivery across India.
Healthcare experts believe leadership appointments within the NHA will play a crucial role as India pushes forward with large-scale adoption of electronic health records, telemedicine services, digital prescriptions, and healthcare interoperability systems.
India’s digital health market is expected to witness strong growth in the coming years, supported by increasing internet penetration, smartphone adoption, government-led digital initiatives, and rising demand for technology enabled healthcare services.
Officials say the ABDM initiative remains central to the government’s long-term vision of building a connected, patient-centric, and technology-driven healthcare system capable of improving efficiency, transparency, and accessibility in healthcare delivery across urban and rural India.
