Healthcare technology leader Johnson & Johnson MedTech has introduced its VARIPULSE Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA) Platform in India, marking a significant advancement in the treatment of cardiac arrhythmias, particularly atrial fibrillation (AFib) one of the most common heart rhythm disorders worldwide.

The VARIPULSE Platform combines pulsed field ablation technology with the CARTO 3 Mapping System, enabling physicians to perform cardiac mapping and ablation within a single integrated workflow. The technology is designed to improve procedural efficiency while providing a more targeted approach to treating abnormal electrical signals in the heart.

Pulsed Field Ablation is an emerging non thermal technology that uses short electrical pulses to selectively target cardiac tissue responsible for arrhythmias while minimizing impact on surrounding structures. Experts believe the approach has the potential to enhance safety and precision compared with traditional thermal ablation techniques.

The launch comes as the burden of atrial fibrillation continues to rise globally. According to estimates published in leading cardiovascular studies, more than 59 million people worldwide are living with atrial fibrillation, a condition associated with an increased risk of stroke, heart failure, and other cardiovascular complications.

Healthcare specialists note that India is witnessing a growing prevalence of cardiovascular diseases due to ageing populations, lifestyle changes, diabetes, hypertension, and obesity. Advanced electrophysiology technologies are therefore becoming increasingly important in improving patient outcomes and expanding access to specialized cardiac care.

The integration of the VARIPULSE Platform with the CARTO 3 System allows physicians to visualize cardiac anatomy, identify abnormal electrical pathways, and perform treatment through a streamlined procedural workflow. Industry experts believe such innovations can contribute to shorter procedure times and enhanced treatment precision.

Johnson & Johnson MedTech continues to invest in next generation cardiovascular technologies aimed at supporting electrophysiologists and improving outcomes for patients with complex heart rhythm disorders.

Healthcare analysts view the launch as an important milestone in India’s cardiac care landscape, reflecting the increasing adoption of advanced medical technologies in the country’s healthcare system. The introduction of Pulsed Field Ablation technology is expected to expand treatment options for patients while supporting the growth of specialized electrophysiology services across leading cardiac centres.

As cardiovascular disease remains a major public health challenge, innovations such as the VARIPULSE Platform are expected to play a growing role in the future of heart rhythm management.
