Advanced Comprehensive Oncology Centre launched by Legendary Former Indian Cricketer Mr. VVS Laxman
Bengaluru, 21 st June 2026: KIMS Hospitals, Mahadevapura, Bengaluru, today inaugurated the KIMS
RENOVA Oncology Institute, a comprehensive cancer care centre envisioned to provide advanced,
integrated, and patient centric oncology services. The institute was inaugurated by Mr. VVS Laxman,
Legendary Former Indian International Cricketer and Head of Cricket at the National Cricket
Academy (NCA), marking a significant milestone in strengthening cancer care capabilities in
Bengaluru.

The launch event brought together healthcare leaders, oncology specialists, dignitaries, cancer
survivors, and community representatives to celebrate the beginning of a new chapter in
comprehensive cancer care focused on innovation, precision, and compassionate treatment.

The event featured ‘Samrohana Sarathi Survivor Program’, a special initiative dedicated to
celebrating the courage and resilience of cancer survivors. As part of the Samrohana Sarathi
Survivor Program, cancer warriors were honoured for their inspiring journeys and contribution
towards creating awareness and hope for others battling cancer.

As part of its commitment towards early detection and community health, KIMS RENOVA Oncology
Institute along with Samrohana Cancer Foundation announced the “134 Free Screening Camp
Pledge”, inspired by the remarkable legacy of Mr. VVS Laxman, who represented India in 134 Test
matches. The initiative aims to conduct 134 free awareness & screening camps for underserved
communities, reinforcing the importance of prevention, awareness, and early diagnosis in the fight
against cancer.

The inauguration also included a unique and insightful Fireside Chat featuring cricketing legend Mr.
VVS Laxman alongside KIMS Hospitals' leading experts: Dr. Sandeep Nayak (Chairman – Oncology &
Executive Director Surgical Oncology & Robotic Surgery) and Dr. Suresh Babu M C (Director
Medical Oncology). The panel explored the striking similarities between cricket and cancer care,
discussing how the necessity for strong partnerships, adapting to changing conditions, and playing a
"long innings" perfectly mirror the multidisciplinary approach required to overcome cancer.
