Fortis Healthcare Ltd. has signed an agreement to establish a 300 bed multi speciality hospital in Odisha, marking a significant expansion of its healthcare network in eastern India. The proposed facility will be located at Dion Riverside Township, Trishulia, Cuttack, and is expected to enhance access to advanced tertiary and quaternary care services for patients across Odisha and neighboring states.
According to the company, the upcoming hospital will offer a comprehensive range of medical and surgical specialties, with a focus on delivering high quality, technology enabled healthcare services. The facility is expected to cater to the growing demand for specialized healthcare infrastructure in the region, particularly in areas such as cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, orthopaedics, gastroenterology and critical care.
The project forms part of Fortis Healthcare’s broader strategy to strengthen its footprint across key growth markets in India. Industry experts note that eastern India remains one of the country’s fastest growing healthcare markets, driven by increasing urbanization, rising healthcare expenditure, expanding health insurance coverage and growing demand for advanced medical services.
Cuttack and the larger Bhubaneswar Cuttack metropolitan region have emerged as important healthcare hubs in eastern India, serving not only Odisha’s population of over 4.6 crore people but also patients from neighboring states. Healthcare experts believe that additional tertiary care capacity will help reduce the need for patients to travel to metropolitan cities for specialized treatment.
Fortis Healthcare currently operates one of India’s largest private healthcare networks, with hospitals across multiple states and a strong presence in specialties including cardiac sciences, oncology, neurosciences, organ transplantation and critical care. The company’s continued expansion reflects growing confidence in India’s healthcare infrastructure sector and the increasing demand for organized hospital services.
According to industry estimates, India’s hospital market is projected to exceed USD 190 billion by 2030, driven by demographic changes, rising disease burden and increasing investment in healthcare infrastructure. Experts anticipate that Tier II and emerging urban centers will account for a significant share of future hospital capacity expansion.
Healthcare industry analysts have welcomed the investment, noting that the addition of large multi speciality hospitals in underserved and high growth regions is essential to improving healthcare accessibility and reducing regional disparities in access to advanced medical care.
The proposed 300 bed facility in Odisha underscores the growing focus of private healthcare providers on expanding beyond metropolitan markets and highlights the increasing importance of eastern India in the country’s evolving healthcare landscape.
