Jupiter Hospital, Dombivli, receives the prestigious IGBC Green Healthcare Facility Platinum Certification by the Indian Green Building Council (IGBC), which is the highest benchmark for sustainable healthcare infrastructure, demonstrating its dedication to creating a healthcare ecosystem that harmonizes clinical excellence with environmental sustainability.
The certification reflects the hospital’s comprehensive approach towards sustainable infrastructure, resource conservation, patient centric design, operational efficiency, and responsible healthcare delivery. The hospital’s design is built to reduce adverse impacts on the environment, while providing a conducive atmosphere for healing and using state-of the art green building technologies and systems to handle energy, water, waste, and indoor environmental quality.
“The IGBC Green Healthcare Facility Platinum Certification reaffirms our long term commitment to sustainability, operational excellence and future ready healthcare infrastructure and our vision has always been to build a hospital that will deliver world class clinical care while minimizing its environmental footprint. Health care should heal people and heal the planet,” said Mr Neelesh Shinde, Group Chief Technical Officer & Head Projects, Jupiter Hospital, Dombivli, Thane.
Indoor environmental quality is further enhanced through continuous fresh air ventilation in accordance with ASHRAE and IGBC guidelines, low emission construction materials, comprehensive building flush out procedures before occupancy, and round the clock monitoring of indoor air quality parameters including temperature, humidity, carbon dioxide, particulate matter and volatile organic compounds through a public display system.
The Hospital has rainwater harvesting systems, water efficient plumbing, optimized landscape irrigation and building level water metering to track municipal water usage, water flushing, treated wastewater use and landscape demand.
Wastewater generated within the hospital is treated through an on site Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) and reused for landscaping, flushing systems, and cooling tower make up water, significantly reducing dependence on freshwater resources.
Jupiter Hospital Dombivli has implemented various technologies which are being used on the premises to ensure it is energy efficient without affecting patient care.
The building uses high efficiency York chillers with a Coefficient of Performance (COP) of 6.3 and is backed by highly efficient cooling towers, variable frequency drive (VFD) chilled water pumps, heat-recovery systems, and LED lighting throughout the campus.
Installation of an intelligent York Chiller Plant Optimizer in Auto Mode is claimed to be the first on premises, non cloud, AI powered central plant optimizer deployment in India’s healthcare sector in enable real time optimization of cooling plant performance.
The hospital also has Building Management System (BMS) continuously monitoring HVAC systems, indoor air quality, filtration efficiency, water consumption, equipment performance as well as energy usage. Temperature and Humidity regulation in operation theatres and other critical clinical areas is automated to achieve optimum operating conditions and improve energy efficiency.
The hospital has also taken steps to increase its sustainability efforts by investing in renewable energy sources, such as a 0.95 MW solar power plant installed at Solapur and a 1.25 MW windmill installed at Sangli, which has helped to lower the reliance on traditional energy sources and carbon emissions.
Green building certifications offer an internationally recognized framework for healthcare institutions to continuously improve their energy efficiency, water use, indoor environmental quality, waste management and operational performance, and support the achievement of India’s goals of achieving Net Zero Carbon 2070.
With the IGBC Green Healthcare Facility Platinum Certification, Jupiter Hospital Dombivli is further cementing their dedication to providing world class healthcare services with infrastructure that is environmentally responsible, technologically advanced and patient, caregiver, and community centric.
