The Kerala Government has released its Health Department Report Card for the first 50 days of the new administration, outlining key initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare infrastructure, expanding hospital capacity and advancing medical education across the state. The report also highlights efforts to establish an AIIMS in Kerala and leverage Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) partnerships to upgrade public health facilities.

According to the report, the Health Department will undertake a statewide assessment of available hospital space to identify opportunities for adding more beds and expanding healthcare infrastructure in response to the growing demand for medical services. The exercise is expected to support better capacity planning and improve access to quality care across government hospitals.

The report card also emphasizes measures to strengthen the healthcare workforce, improve medical education and modernize hospital infrastructure. As part of its long term strategy, the state plans to mobilize CSR funding to accelerate the development of healthcare facilities, procure advanced medical equipment and enhance patient amenities without placing additional pressure on public finances.

The government reiterated its commitment to securing an All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) for Kerala, stating that the proposed institution would significantly boost tertiary healthcare, medical education and biomedical research in the state.

Kerala has consistently ranked among India’s top-performing states on key health indicators, with high institutional delivery rates, strong primary healthcare services and one of the country’s highest life expectancy levels. Health experts believe continued investment in hospital infrastructure, workforce development and academic institutions will help the state address the rising burden of non-communicable diseases and the healthcare needs of an ageing population.

The report underscores Kerala’s focus on building a stronger, technology-enabled and patient centric healthcare system through infrastructure expansion, strategic partnerships and sustained investment in public health.
