Deepinder Goyal, co-founder of Zomato and former CEO of Eternal, has announced that his AI-powered wearable device, Temple, is expected to launch within the next six to twelve months. Initially positioned as a wellness device, the forehead worn wearable is designed to monitor the body’s metabolic state in real time and could eventually seek regulatory approval as a medical device.

Speaking to Bloomberg, Goyal said Temple will debut with peer-reviewed scientific studies supporting its wellness applications. He added that future versions incorporating clinical features would undergo the necessary regulatory approvals before being introduced as medical grade technologies.

Unlike conventional wearables that rely primarily on heart rate as an indirect health indicator, Temple is designed to measure metabolic activity directly. Goyal said the team has identified a new biomarker called “entropy,” which it believes correlates with metabolic rate and provides insights into stress, meditation, recovery, sleep and exercise. However, he acknowledged that the biomarker has not yet been independently validated by the broader scientific community.

The bean shaped device, worn on the side of the forehead, is expected to retail at approximately US$1,000 and will initially target athletes, entrepreneurs and high performance professionals rather than the mass consumer market. According to Goyal, over one lakh people applied for the first 100 Temple devices after early access registrations opened in May 2026, reflecting strong market interest.

Temple represents Goyal’s first commercial venture since stepping down as CEO of Eternal earlier this year. Healthcare experts note that while AI-powered wearables are transforming preventive health and personalised wellness, clinical validation, peer-reviewed evidence and regulatory approvals remain essential before new biomarkers or diagnostic claims can be adopted in mainstream medical practice.

The launch is expected to add momentum to India’s growing digital health and wearable technology ecosystem, where innovation is increasingly focused on AI-driven, data-powered preventive healthcare solutions.
